School Closure “Work-From-Home” Plans Mr. Eisner

For the Week of March 16 through March 27; All work due by March 30.

10th Grade English—Periods 1 & 2:

Be sure to use your time wisely. Complete 1 hour of work each day (including class and homework). All
documents are posted on mreisnersclass.weebly.com/English-10 and all work is due on Schoology. Check
the class website and Schoology daily to make sure you are on-task. Deadlines for assignments are hard
deadlines. Assignments will be LOCKED at deadline. Do not wait until the last minute to upload your work.
NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.

If you have questions, email me: eme0224@lausd.net.

You may find it helpful and expeditious to exchange information (phone numbers, emails) with a classmate.

Complete the following:

1. Finish the note and source cards section of the “Upstanders” project by Thursday, March 19
@11:45pm on Schoology.

This includes:
Completing the 10 note-cards and 3 source cards. *10 Note-cards is a minimum. You can still earn an
“A” on this assignment if you only complete the 10 + 3, but if your cards are not completely filled out
or if you have big lettering, you will not earn full credit. It is suggested that if you feel that your note
cards are not well-detailed or that your writing is too large, to create additional note cards.

Once complete, place your note cards (notes side up) flat on a table next to one another in a square shape.
Take a clear picture of all of your cards (ONLY THE SIDE WITH THE NOTES), and upload to “‘Note Cards”
assignment on Schoology. (25 points). Do not take a picture of the front of the note cards (source number
and category).

Do the same as above for your source cards, but with the citation information facing up. Upload to “Source
Cards” assignment on Schoology. Do not take a picture of the front of the source cards (source number).

2. Complete the Organizer worksheet (see back of project overview) and upload to “Organizer” assignment
on Schoology by Sunday, March 22 @ 11:45pm. The purpose of this assignment is to lay out the general
storyline for your graphic novel. The more details you provide on this worksheet, the easier it will be to
create the graphic novel.

3. Create your graphic novel. I have uploaded to my website a sample graphic novel sheet that you may
print and use for all of your pages, or you may even choose to modify it to fit your needs. You may also
create the graphic novel digitally. Here is an article that lists a free websites that can be used to create
graphic novels: https://mashable.com/article/create-your-own-comics/. Another option is to print copies
of the sample graphic organizer sheet and to cut out pictures from a magazine or newspaper. Although you
are not being graded on your artistic ability, your work must be neatly organized.

*Remember, the graphic novel should be 10 pages and include a separate Title Page and Works Cited Page.
The story itself should follow the general order of the note cards (“Origins”, “Family”, “Education”, etc.—see
project overview). The Works Cited page should list your sources in MLA citation format. 12 PAGES TOTAL

4. Once you have finished a complete draft of your work, fill out the “Rubric Workshop” worksheet, and
upload to “Rubric Workshop” assignment on Schoology by Friday, March 27 @ 11:45pm. See Schoology
assignment for the worksheet.

*Prior to submitting in class on Monday, March 30, 2020, make sure your graphic novel is as good as you can
make it. Do the following:
ü Do a spelling and grammar check.
ü Make sure that you have a Title Page, 10 pages of storyline, and a Works Cited page.
ü Make sure that each page (not including the title page and works cited) has at least one picture and at
least one narration and one dialogue (i.e., speech bubble).
ü Make sure your graphic novel is neat and well organized. If you draw it by hand, make sure to erase
any stray marks. If you cut and paste from a magazine, make sure that the pictures are cleanly glued.
Make sure that your writing is very legible. Make sure that the pages are neatly bound together.
ü Most importantly, take your time in creating this work of art. As you have 2 weeks at home to work
on this project, have fun with it. Get into it. Take your time.
The graphic novel will be due March 30 at the beginning of class, and will be shared in class. This is a hard
deadline. Use your time wisely. Do not wait until the last minute to complete this assignment, including
printing your work if you have created it digitally. This assignment is worth a large percentage of your
overall summative grade in the class and should be taken seriously. Late work will be marked down
accordingly.
