Half Yearly Examination : 2018 - 19


Class XI (Mathematics)
Time : 3 hrs M.M.= 100
General Instructions :
(i) All questions are compulsory.
(ii) The question paper consists of 29 questions divided in to four sections A, B, C and D.
Section A comprises of 4 questions of one mark each. Section B comprises of 8
questions of two marks each. Section C comprises of 11 questions of four marks
each and Section D comprises of 6 questions of six marks each.
(iii) There is no overall choice. However, internal choice has been provided in 2questions
of four marks and 2 questions of six marks each. You have to attempt only one of
the alternatives in all such questions.

Section – A (Each of 1 mark)

Q- 1 Write the interval [ - 23, 5) in set builder form.

Q- 2 Convert 400 20´ into radian measure.

Q-3 Find the multiplicative inverse of √3 - 2i.

Q-4 Write the first 3 terms of the sequence ; a1 = 3 , an = 3an – 1 + 2, for all n > 1

Section – B (Each of 2 marks)

Q-5 If U ={ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} ; A = { 2, 3} ; B = { 3,4 ,5 }, find (i) A´ (ii) B´ (iii) A´∩ B´ (iv) A U B


and hence prove that : ( A U B)´ = A´ ∩ B´

Q- 6 If A = { 1, 2, 3} , B = { 3, 4 } & C = { 4, 5, 6 } , find :

(i) A × (B ∩ C) (ii) ( A × B) U ( A × )

Q-13 Determine the domain and range of the relation R defined by :

R = {( X , X+5 ): X ∈ {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 } }

Q- 14 Find the domain and range of the function (i) f(x) = √ − 2 (ii) f(x) = |x – 3|

Q-18 In an experiment, a solution of hydrochloric acid to be kept between 300 and 350 celsius.
What Is the range of temperature in degree Fahrenheit if conversion formula is given by
C = ( F – 32 ), where C & F represent temperature in degree Celsius and degree
Fahrenheit respectively.

Q- 19 Solve the quadratic equations : (i) 2x2 + 3ix +2 = 0 (ii) x2 – 5ix – 6 = 0

Q-20 A group consists of 4 girls and 7 boys. In how many ways can a team of 5 members be
selected if the team has (i) Atleast one boy and one girl (ii) Atmost 3 boys.

Q-21 In how many of the distinct permutations of the letters in CHHATTISGARH do the all
three H not come together?

Q-22 Between 1 and 31, m numbers have been inserted in such a way that the resulting
sequence is an A.P and the ratio of 7th and ( m - 1)th numbers is 5: 9.

Find the value of m.

Q-23 The sum of n terms of two A.P are in the ratio (3n + 8) : ( 7n + 15). Find the ratio of their
12th terms.
Section – D (Each of 6 marks)

Q-24 In a survey it was found that 21 people liked product A, 26 liked product B and 29 liked
product C. If 14 people liked products A & B, 12people liked products C & A, 14 people
liked products B & C and 8 liked all the three products. Find how many people liked
product C only.

Q-25 (I) prove that : = tanx.


(ii) Find the general solution of : sinx + sin 3x + sin 5x = 0

Q-26 By using principle of mathematical induction for all n ∈ N, prove that :
