CERTIFICATE IN MEASUREMENT OF BUILDING

WORKS
Introduction
This comprehensive measurement course aims to equip participants with the essential knowledge

and skills to take off quantities in accordance to the principles and rules of the Singapore Standard

Method of Measurement (2). It comprises four modules, each covering 33 hours of lecture and tutorial

and they will be offered as Continuing Education and Training (CET) Courses in Singapore University

of Social Sciences (SUSS) from January 2018.

Course Structure
QSM 201 Civil & Structural Works — Commencing 1 February 2020 (11 sessions)
QSM 202 Architectural and M&E Works — To be advised (11 sessions)
QSM 301 Advanced Civil & Structural Works — Commencing 24 January 2020 (11 sessions)
QSM 302  Specialist Work — To be advised (11 sessions)

Course Content
The course consists of 4 modules.

QSM201 Construction Measurement (1 of 4) Civil & Structural Works
Time: 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm
QSM201 Construction Measurement (1 of 4) Civil & Structural Works explains the roles of

Probationers and Technical Members) must complete at

Assessment & Award


Assessments will be a combination of course work and/or

written tests where appropriate.

A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded by SISV to

participants who have  attended at least 75% of each

module.

Upon successful completion of all 4 modules, a

Certificate of Measurement of Building Works will be

issued by SISV.

QSM202 Construction Measurement (2 of 4) Architectural and M&E Works


QSM202 Construction Measurement (2 of 4) Architectural and M&E Works focuses on the measurement of Architectural and Mechanical &

Electrical works. It develops students’ understanding and skills in the measurement of building works involving wall, floor and ceiling finishes, doors

and windows, roof structures & coverings, and general mechanical, electrical and plumbing installation works.

· Measurement of in-situ and tiled wall and floor finishes
· Measurement of system floor and ceiling finishes
· Measurement of timber pitched roofs
· Measurement of pitched roof coverings and rainwater goods
· Measurement of doors and associated sundry items
· Measurement of windows and associated sundry items
· Application of general SMM principles for measuring Mechanical installations
· Measurement of pipes, ducts, insulation and associated fittings
· Application of general SMM principles for measuring Electrical installations
· Measurement of conduits, cables, lighting installations and associated electrical works
· Application of general SMM principles for measuring plumbing installations
· Measurement of cold & hot water supply, sanitary & plumbing system, CCTV and fire protection system

QSM301 Construction Measurement (3 of 4) Advanced Civil & Structural Works


QSM201 Construction Measurement (3 of 4) Advanced Civil & Structural Works focuses on the measurement of more advanced Civil & Structural

works in projects. It develops students’  understanding and skills in the measurement of building works involving site preparation work, excavation of

reinforced concrete framed & load-bearing structures and reinforced concrete super-structure works, including staircases and specialized piling in

projects.

Topics:
· Measurement of site preparation works involving other site excavation and tree cutting
· Measurement of excavation works below ground and associated reinforced concrete elements
· Measurement of rock excavation, concrete thickening, waterproofing and hardcore
· Measurement of reinforced concrete strip foundations with load bearing walls
· Measurement of reinforced concrete framed structures including columns, beams and slabs
· Measurement of roof structure including associated waterproofing works, formwork and reinforcement
· Measurement of reinforced concrete staircases, landings, balustrading and including associated formwork and reinforcement
· Measurement of metal and timber staircases with associated balustrading
· Measurement of brick and block walls including damp proof courses
· Measurement of glass walls and dry partition walls
· Measurement of reinforced concrete bored piles

QSM302 Construction Measurement (4 of 4) Specialist Works  


QSM302 Construction Measurement (4 of 4) Specialist Works focuses on the measurement of specialist work in projects. It develops students’

understanding and skills in the measurement of building works involving earthwork calculations, deep basement excavation, demolition and

alteration works, precast and prestressed concrete, curtain walls and cladding systems, glazing and external works.

· General principles and formulae relating to earthwork calculations and measurement
· Measurement of earthworks involving cutting and filling
· Measurement of basement excavation and associated reinforced concrete works
· Measurement of basement tanking and waterproofing works
· Measurement of diaphragm walls excavation and associated works
· Measurement of external works involving apron slab and surface water channel
· Measurement of external works involving gates, fencing,  turfing and tree planting
