This study investigated the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a tool for
effective teaching and learning of mathematics among college level students. The purpose of this study
was to explore use of ICT in teaching and learning of Mathematics among college level students and
teachers of mathematics. The researcher deployed an online survey form to collect data. Three
questions, based on the objective of the study, were asked to both the teachers and students from
different colleges and universities of India. The chi-square test was used to analyze the obtained data.
The findings of the study are that, the use of ICT enhances teaching learning of mathematics, improves
skills for solving mathematical problems and makes students interested in learning mathematics.
Young people’s ICT role at home—a
descriptive study of young Finnish people’s
ICT views in the home context
 Hannu J. Lahtinen

Abstract
For young people home is an increasingly important place to use Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) and to acquire new digital skills mainly
by informal learning. In this study we focused on young people’s ICT activity
in the home context to examine what kind of theoretical or practical added
value as an analysis tool this factor can give for the studies concerning the
relationship between young people and information and communication
technology. Therefore we constructed a simple ICT role variable to describe
young people’s ICT activity at home. In order to find out the expressive power
and functionality of the new variable we used empirical data analysing young
people’s personal qualities, external factors, ICT usage and ICT competence in
the light of the ICT role at home. The research took 2 years (2005–2007) and
its empirical data are based on the information given by the Finnish young at
the age of about 14 in a geographically limited area. On the basis of the data
the personal qualities of young people characterized a young person as an ICT
expert at home better than the factors in his/her social and physical
environments. The study revealed that the ICT role is a notable factor, when
we want to learn more about the relationship between young people and ICT,
for example, from the viewpoints of informal learning and diffusion of
innovations and use or when we want to create a model of ICT usage or
competence.

Abstract

Trakia University started the implementation of ICT in education in 2003 with usage of
LearningManagement Systems Moodle and eLse. During that period some experiments were carried out
in order tofind an appropriate model for e-learning education on specific subjects in our university. The
essential goal isconnected with the application of open source software and its adaptation to our vision
of an effectiveeducational process. We use several beneficial ICT tools in teaching and learning like Wiki
systems,Learning Management Systems, Thin-client classroom, Web-conferencing and Desktop sharing
tools. Theauthors are experienced with advantages and disadvantages of pointed ICT tools and the
current study presents some successful examples of their implementation. Our main conclusions are
connected with theintegration of these different and separate ICT tools into one basic system. According
to us this comes up the best approach that covers the whole process of education.

Abstract:
The utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) to enhance English
teaching is the emphasis of the basic education reform in China. The purpose of this study
was to construct an effective blended learning model of English speaking teaching for pupils
in primary schools in China. English Conversational material, which integrates ICT into
classroom learning, was developed by David Goldberg and was adapted as the instruments
in this study. The theory of Semantic Perception proposed by the second author of this
paper was used as the theoretical framework. The Quasi-Experimental research design was
employed, and a questionnaire survey and semi-interviews were used to evaluate the
outcomes. Two hundred students from six schools were selected to participate in the study.
An experimental group using blended learning was set up for comparison with a group
using a traditional teaching model. A four-stage procedure was adopted in the study -
forming the experimental and comparison groups, pre-testing the two groups for their
English speaking competence, using blended learning with the experimental group and
traditional learning with the control group, and post-testing the study achievements between
the two groups. After the experiments, 40 teachers were asked to fill in a feedback
questionnaire, and all the teachers (100%) completed one. Fifty-two subjects, randomly
selected from the questionnaire respondents, were interviewed. The results showed that
using English Conversational material, which integrated ICT into teaching, could enhance
primary school pupilspsila study achievements in the areas of English speaking and
listening compared with traditional teaching methods. It is hoped that the findings of this
study will encourage teachers to use ICT in English teaching to make teaching and learning
more effective.

Fair Use Rights in the Digital World: A Phenomenological
Study of Instructional Technology Specialists
Turgay Alakurt

Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal an insight into the awareness and experiences of IT specialists about fair
use in Turkey. A phenomenological design was employed and the criterion sampling method was used in this
study. A total of nine specialists volunteered to participate. The data were collected through semi-structured
interviews. Information seeking behaviors of the participants in this study displayed the transformation in
knowledge acquisition activities. Although ICT specialists have the ability to develop, operate and maintain
ICT systems and tools, they are not required to develop e-content. The findings indicated that they actively
use web repositories for the needs of digital content and a group of IT tools (e.g. LMS and CMS) for learning
and learning management. On the other hand, the findings revealed that, even if they are qualified staff in
educational technology and implementing effective policies regarding the technology integration into
classroom, the majority of those interviewed had low level of awareness about fair use principles. These
results provide potentially important implications for educational institutions developing efficient in-service
programs to raise the awareness among faculty members and undergraduate students about copyright and
fair use in higher education.
