Suicide is common issue these days and it is widely discussed in institutions

although it is still condemned by the society. Suicide is an act of killing one’s own life. It
is one of the biggest issues that are society facing right now. Suicide is a multi-
dimensional phenomenon which has different meanings among adolescents. Suicide
means ending your own life. It is sometimes a way for people to escape pain or
suffering. When someone ends their own life, we say that they “died by suicide.” Suicide
is more often as a result of depression or other mental illness (American Psychiatric
Association). But then suicide is defined by many factors and a deep understanding of
this issue is necessary for prevention and rehabilitation for those people who attempt
suicide.
Suicide is a leading cause of death worldwide. Yet, there are considerable
variations in national suicide rates. According to World Health Organization (WHO)
data, Philippines’ suicide rate reached 5.8 for male, 1.9 for females, and 3.8 for both
sexes. The rate is based from the number of cases affected per sample size of 100,000
people that approximately 1 million people died by suicide. Also, according to the WHO,
for 2017, suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15 to 29-year-olds, and
78 percent of global suicides occur in low and middle-income countries. The rate of
suicide across the world reach 16 per 100,000 which increases in the past four decades
and substantially increases suicide rates globally as much as 60% (World Health
Organization, 2017). Recently the WHO’s South East Asia regional office reported that
the global suicide rate had risen from 10 suicides per 100,000 people in the 1950s to 18
suicides per 100,000 people in 1995. As many as 73 percent of suicides in the world
occur in developing countries.
There are many social causes or factors that a person commits suicide. One of
the examples are depression, stress and problems about heartbreak, family, studies
and financial problems. Stress, depression, and problems like about family, studies and
financial are one of the social causes of attempting suicide. Not all people who die by
suicide have been diagnosed with a mental illness and not all people with a mental
illness attempt to end their lives by suicide. Most people who think about suicide never
make a "serious" attempt at it, but sometimes there are people who really make suicide
just because they feel so much pain that they can’t cope with it. For every attempted
suicide, there is thought to be one or more people where the thought of suicide has
never translated into an actual attempt. In most communities, the health care system is
also not well-equipped to deal with the magnitude of the problem or the specific needs
of a person who is suicidal.
