NADZMY HAKKIM
INTRODUCTION
• What is air conditioning?
• Primary function is to maintain conditions that are (1) conducive to human
comfort, or (2) required by a product, or process within a space.
• What is internal heat gain?
• Sensible & latent heat released within the air-conditioned space by the
occupants, lights, appliances, machines, etc.
• What is cooling load?
• Amount of heat energy that would need to be removed from a space to
maintain temperature in an acceptable range.
• What is sensible heat?
• Change in temperature with no change in moisture content.
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
1) People – Internal sensible load
2) Lighting – Internal sensible load
3) Plug Loads – Internal sensible load
4) Solar Loads – External sensible load
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
1) People
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
2) Lighting
• Fluorescent & Incandescent light
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
3) Plug Load
• Any electrical equipment or appliances.
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
4) Solar Load: Conduction
• Q = U x A x TD
• U = Rate at which heat is
transferred thru building
structure in Btu/hr, 1/R
• A = Area of glass
• TD = Temperature difference
between outside and inside
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
4) Solar Load: Conduction
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
4) Solar Load: Radiation
• Q = A x SC x SCL
• A = Area of glass
• SC = Glass shading coefficient
• SCL = Solar cooling load factor
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
4) Solar Load: Radiation
• SC = Glass shading coefficient
• SC = SHGC x 1.15
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
4) Solar Load: Radiation
• SCL = Solar cooling load factor
• Based on glass orientation, month, time of day, & geographical location.
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
4) Solar Load: Conductance Thru
Wall
• Q = U x A x TD
• U = Rate at which heat is
transferred thru building
structure in Btu/hr, 1/R
• A = Area of wall
• TD = Temperature difference
between outside and inside
SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD
4) Solar Load: Conductance Thru Wall
HOW TO CALCULATE SENSIBLE HEAT LOAD?
• There is 5 person in a tuition room. 4 students is sitting and the
teacher is teaching while standing.
• There is 4 nos 100 W light bulb in the room.
• Each students and teacher is using computer continuously. Each
computer release 75 W of heat.
• 30% of tuition room’s wall is glass. Assume total area of wall is 200
sqft.
• Outdoor & indoor temperature is 100F & 75F respectively.
HEAT CALCULATOR
• https://www.daikin.com.my/heat-calculator/
• 9000 - 10000 = 1hp
• 11000 - 14000 = 1.5hp
• 18000 - 20000 = 2hp
• 21000 - 24000 = 2.5hp
• 28000 - 30000 = 3 hp
• 33000 - 35000 = 3.5hp
• 40000 - 47000 = 4hp
• 48000 above = 5hp
