Dear M.Tech Aspirants,

The M.Tech admissions in Tamilnadu are under the purview of the Anna Universi-
ty which conducts the Tamilnadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) for the same.
TANCET is a popular exam in Tamilnadu with scores of students applying for the
entrance test to get admissions to the disciplines of their choice in the M.Tech/M.E
programmes. The Anna University conducts TANCET to screen the M.Tech/M.E ad-
missions offered at the various University Departments / University Colleges of Anna
University, Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges and Arts & Sci-
ence Colleges and Self-financing Colleges (Engineering, Arts & Science Colleges in-
cluding stand-alone Institutions) in Tamilnadu.

Candidates who have scored valid GATE scores are exempt from this exam but have
to fill the Application Form along with the Non GATE candidates. Counselling and
admissions are however through the Tamilnadu Common Admissions (TANCA). TAN-
CA involves separate counselling rounds for GATE qualified candidates and TANCET
qualified candidates. Seat Allotment is based on the respective Merit Ranks also de-
clared separately for GATE and TANCET candidates.

details like Eligibility, Exam Pattern, and Application Procedure. The process of ad-
missions through TANCA has also been dealt with in detail in this EBook.

Exam Name: Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test
Commonly called as: TANCET

About TANCET 2016: The entrance test devised by Anna University for ad-
missions to the PG engineering programmes at the university and its affili-
ated instititutes. The entrance test is offered in 15 specialised papers and is
objective in nature conducted offline.

TANCET 2016
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates must have passed B.E. / B.Tech. in the relevant field with a mini-
mum of 50% (45% in case of SC/ST)

OR

Candidates must have passed the certificate programmes of professional

bodies or societies (e.g. A.M.I.E.) recognised by the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of
India as equivalent to B.E. / B.Tech.

OR

Degree holders only with 2 Years regular full time experience in the rel-
evant field after successful completion of the course including project work.

An experience certificate is to be produced by the candidates with the fol-

lowing qualifications:

zz10+2+AMIE

(or)
zz10+3 Years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical Education) + AMIE.

Industrial experience for AMIE candidates:

10 + 2 years H.Sc. + AMIE (with 2 years experience)
10 + 3 Years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical Education) + AMIE
(with 2 years experience)

The following candidates are ineligible for TANCET 2016:

zzCandidates with B.E./B.Tech degrees in Distance mode/Week end courses
zzCandidates with degree obtained without studying 10+2 or 3 years diploma and
3/4 years degree programme

TANCET 2016 Candidates may fall under the following categories:

A. GATE Category
(i) Candidates with a valid GATE 2016 score and qualifying marks for assistantship
in the appropriate discipline of Engineering / Technology.
(ii) Candidates with a valid GATE 2016 score and qualifying marks for assistantship
in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers

Note: Candidates with XE/XL papers in GATE 2016 must appear for TANCET 2016
also.

B. Non - GATE Category: Must appear for TANCET 2016

C. Sponsored Category: Must appear for TANCET 2016: Candidates employed and
sponsored by the Government organisations, Government aided educational insti-
tutions and registered professional architects with a minimum of 5 years profes-
sional experience come under this category.

How to Fill the offline TANCET 2016 Application Form:

zzCandidates must fill the Application Form
zzThey must attach their recent passport size photograph in the designated
place.
zzThey must attach the copies of the certificates specified above and submit
the TANCET 2016 Application Form.

Important: Candidates will be issued TANCET 2016 Hall Tickets after submit-
ting the Application Form for TANCET 2016.

2. Online: Candidates will have to register.

Candidates must enter the requisite details like personal information, aca-
demic details and address for communication.
zzThey must submit the Online TANCET 2016 Application Form.
zzAfter submitting it, they must download the filled in TANCET 2016 Appli-
cation Form and take a printout
zzThey must affix a passport size photo to it and send it along with the fol-
lowing to the address mentioned below.
zzCopy of class X or equivalent mark sheet
zzCopy of class XII mark sheet or 3 years Diploma certificate
zzDemand Draft in favour of The Secretary, TANCET, Anna University,’ pay-
able at Chennai from any Nationalised Bank drawn on or after the speci-

andidates who have applied online for TANCET 2016 will be have to
download their TANCET 2016 Hall Tickets after it is announced by
Anna University while candidates who have applied in person at the
co-ordinating centres will be issued the TANCET 2016 Hall Tickets immedi-
ately.

zzThe TANCET 2016 Hall Ticket displays the TANCET 2016 Registration No
zzIt also displays the details of the candidates and the exam centre along
with a photograph of the candidate
zzCandidates must safe keep the TANCET 2016 Hall tickets till the admis-

Duplicate TANCET 2016 Hall tickets before exam:

zzTo obtain a duplicate TANCET 2016 Hall Ticket before the exam, Candi-
dates have to submit an attested copy of a recent passport size photograph
and TANCET 2016 Application No if the TANCET 2016 Application is on-
line.
zzCandidates who have applied at the co-ordinating centers must submit
a photograph and the Acknowledgement card issued while they were ap-
plying.
zzCandidates will be issued a duplicate TANCET 2016 Hall Ticket after veri-
fication of the TANCET 2016 Application No or Acknowledgement card,
zzThe TANCET 2016 Hall Ticket must be furnished at the time of the TAN-
CET 2016 exam and during admission.

Duplicate TANCET 2016 Hall tickets after exam:

zzTo obtain a duplicate TANCET 2016 Hall ticket after the exam for admis-
sions, candidates must send a written request along with a DD for Rs 100
in favour of “The Director, Entrance Examinations, Anna University,” pay-
able at Chennai
zzCandidates will have to mention the TANCET 2016 Registration No. / Ap-
plication No. and the name of the Examination Centre in the request.
zzCandidates are advised to keep a copy of the DD sent.

Exam Pattern:
The duration of the TANCET 2016 exam will be 2 Hours and medium
will be English

The TANCET 2016 question paper will have three parts:

1. Part-I: Engineering Mathematics

zzIt will be compulsory for all candidates.
zzThis section will comprise of a total of 30 questions
zzOne mark will be awarded for every correct answer and ¼ mark deducted
for every wrong answer

2. Part-II: Basic Engineering and Sciences

zzIt will be compulsory for all candidates.
zzThis section will comprise of a total of 40 questions

TANCET 2016 Result

T
he TANCET 2016 Result will be announced tentatively in June 2016.
Candidates can check the scores they have obtained in the TANCET
2016 exam by entering their TANCET 2016 Registration No and Date
of Birth. Candidates can check their TANCET 2016 Result on this page.

Candidates may note that the admissions to the M.Tech/ M.E programmes
in the Anna University Departments, University Colleges of Engineering,
Regional Centres of Anna University, Government and Government Aided
Engineering Colleges, Arts & Science Colleges and Self-financing Colleges
(Engineering, Arts & Science Colleges including stand-alone Institutions) in
Tamilnadu will be on the basis of the TANCET 2016 Results

Candidates may note that some Universities and Self- Financing Engineer-
ing Colleges may also opt to admit the candidates on the basis of marks ob-
tained in TANCET 2016.

The scores as per the TANCET 2016 Result will be known after candidates
login to check the same. Candidates may note that the TANCET 2016 Rank
Card/ Marks Sheet will be available after the Results are announced. The

Marks Sheet of TANCET 2016 will not be sent by post or any other means.

Candidates may remember to download and safe keep the TANCET Marks
Sheet as it is required during counselling and admissions. The counselling

TANCA 2016 Counselling

T
amilnadu Common Admissions (TANCA) is the counselling for the
TANCET qualified students and the GATE qualified students for the
M.Tech admissions in Tamilnadu. The Counselling for GATE candi-
dates and TANCET 2016 candidates will be held separately in August, 2016.
Candidates must check the TANCA 2016 Counselling Schedule that will be
specified by Anna University based on the TANCA /GATE scores.

TANCA 2016 Counselling Process is as follows:

1. Application:
zzCandidates have to apply for TANCA 2016 counselling based on their TAN-

CET 2016 scores or their GATE 2016 scores.

zzSeparate application has to be filled for each category GATE – Engineer-
ing / Technology, GATE – Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) /
Non-GATE / Sponsored.
zzNote: Seats under sponsored category are available only in University De-

partments of Anna University, Chennai-25.

2. TANCA 2016 Merit Rank:

The Merit Rank for the applicants will be declared in August 2016. Separate
lists will be announced for the GATE candidates and the TANCET candidates.

1. GATE category:
zzCandidates must enter their GATE 2016 Number to check their TANCA
2016 Merit Rank
zzThe Merit List will be prepared based on the basis of the GATE scores ob-
tained out of 100 in the respective Engineering / Technology branch the
candidate has appeared in.
zzCandidates must have obtained the minimum GATE 2016 scores as pre-
scribed by the GATE authorities to be eligible for listing in the TANCA
2016 Merit List
zzThe TANCA 2016 Merit List for candidates who have appeared for the En-
gineering Science (XE) / Life Science (XL) papers in GATE exam will be
based on the GATE 2016 scores and TANCET 2016 scores in the ratio 70:30.
zzAll GATE applicants will be listed in the common TANCA 2016 Merit List
for GATE candidates

2. NON-GATE category:
zzCandidates must enter their TANCET 2016 No below to know their TANCA

2016 Merit Rank

zzThe TANCA 2016 Merit List will be prepared on the basis of the TANCET
2016 marks

Inter-se-merit: In case of a tie, candidates will be evaluated on the basis of

the marks obtained in their qualifying exam

TANCA 2016 Counselling will be held through single Window

counselling
zzOnly candidates who meet the TANCA 2016 Eligibility Criteria will be
called for the TANCA 2016 Counselling.
zzThe TANCA 2016 Merit Rank and the TANCA 2016 Counselling Schedule
will be sent through ordinary post.
zzEligible candidates will be allowed to appear for counselling according to
their cut-off mark, two hours before the TANCA 2016 counselling session
irrespective of receipt of individual communication.

zzCandidates who do not attend the counselling will forfeit their admissions.
zzA candidate can get allotment for one programme only.
zzCounselling will be held at Anna University, Chennai-25.
zzCandidates are required to attend the TANCA 2016 Counselling with all
the original certificates.
zzIn case, a candidate has deposited all the certificates where he/she has
already been admitted, a letter from the head of the institution should be
produced to that effect. In such cases only, attested photocopies of cer-
tificates will be accepted (except GATE score card). However, the original
allotment order will be withheld and it will be given after verifying the
original certificates.
zzCandidates unable to attend the TANCA 2016 Counselling on the specified

date and time can authorize one of their parents on their behalf through
an authorization letter given by the student to be submitted by the parents
at the counselling venue.
zzSuch parents should also produce any one of the photo identity docu-
ments in original: voter ID, driving license, PAN card and passport.

TANCA 2016 Fee:

zzRs 5,300 (Rs 1,150 for SC / SCA / ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu)
in the form of a Demand Draft or Cash
zzThis fee is inclusive of a non refundable counselling fee of Rs 300 (Rs 150
for SC / SCA / ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu)
zzThe Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of “The Secretary, TANCA,
Anna University” payable at Chennai.

TANCA 2016 Seat Allotment

zzThe Seat Allotment for TANCA 2016 will be based on the seats available
and the TANCA 2016 Merit Rank of the applicants.
zzA candidate can avail the TANCA 2016 Seat Allotment for one programme

only.
zzCandidates availing admission through their GATE 2016 scores have to
submit their original valid GATE 2014 score card after the TANCA 2016
Seat Allotment is granted.
zzUnfilled seats if any, under the GATE category will be converted to Non-
GATE category in the respective Communities at the end of the counsel-
ling.

zzAfter the TANCA 2016 Seat Allotment is announced, allotted candidates

will be issued the provisional allotment order and receipt for the initial
payment.
zzCandidates have to pay the balance fees in the college concerned at the
time of admission on the date as specified in the allotment order
