Microwave ovens are generally safe when used correctly. But people have experienced burns,
and in rare cases, other injuries from microwave radiation, particularly in cases involving
improper use or maintenance. Therefore, always use your oven properly and maintain it as
recommended by the user manual.
1. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Directions in the user manual provide
recommended operating procedures and safety precautions.
2. Use microwave-safe containers. Use cookware specially manufactured for use in the
microwave oven. Generally, you should not use metal pans or aluminum foil. And you should
not use some plastic containers because heated food can cause them to melt.
3. Avoid super-heated water. “Super-heated” means water is heated beyond its boiling
temperature, without signs of boiling. If you use a microwave oven to heat water in a clean
cup beyond the boiling temperature, a slight disturbance or movement may cause the water to
violently explode out of the cup.
4. Check for leakage. There should be little cause for concern about excess microwave
radiation leaking from these ovens unless the door hinges, latch, or seals are damaged. The
FDA recommends looking at your oven carefully to see if any of these issues exist. Don’t use
the oven if its door doesn’t close firmly or is bent, warped, or damaged.
5. Don’t use ovens that seem to operate when the door is open. The FDA monitors these
appliances for radiation safety issues and has received increasing reports about microwave
ovens that appear to stay on—and operate—when the door is open.
25. How is the objective of the text?
A. To give directions how to use microwave oven.
B. To explain the steps of how to use microwave oven.
C. To guide the readers how to use microwave oven safely.
D. To warn the readers to be careful in using microwave oven.
E. To instruct the readers to use microwave oven without risk.
26. What should we do if the microwave door is wrecked?
A. Stop using it.
B. Close it firmly.
C. Check for leakage.
D. Stay on operating it
E. Follow the instructions.

Taj Mahal, an epitome of love, is actually a mausoleum. It is located in Agra, the state of Uttar
Pradesh, approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles) from Delhi. It's part of India's popular Golden
Triangle Tourist Circuit.
Taj Mahal represents the finest architectural and artistic achievement. The mausoleum was
constructed of pure white marble. The white marble is inlaid with semiprecious stones (including
jade, crystal, lapis lazuli, amethyst and turquoise) that form the intricate designs. Its central dome
reaches a height of 240 feet (73 meters). The dome is surrounded by four smaller domes. Four
slender towers, or minarets, stand at the corners. Inside the mausoleum, an octagonal marble chamber
adorned with carvings and semiprecious stones house the false tomb of Mumtaz Mahal. Her actual
remains lie below, at garden level.
Taj Mahal shows shades of magnificent beauty at different time during the day. At dawn when
the first rays of the sun hits the dome of this epic monument, it radiates like a heavenly pinkish
palace. At daytime, when the sky is bright and clear, the Taj looks milky white. At a moonlit night
when the full moon rays fall on the glistening white marble, the cool moon rays reflect back from the
white marble and give the Taj Mahal a tinge of blue color. It’s simply breathtaking!
The Taj Mahal can be visited on a day trip from Delhi. Agra is well connected by rail. The
main railway station is Agra Cantt. High speed Shatabdi Express services operate from Delhi,
Varanasi, and cities in Rajasthan. Alternatively you can fly from major Indian cities, or take a tour
from Delhi.

Bamboo is evergreen perennial flowering plants in the subfamily Bambusoideae of the
grass family Poaceae. The word "bamboo" comes from the term bambu ,which was introduced to
English through Indonesian and Malay.
Bamboos include some of the fastest-growing plants in the world, due to a unique rhizome-
dependent system. Certain species of bamboo can grow 91 cm (36 in) within a 24-hour period, at
a rate of almost 4 cm (1.6 in) an hour (a growth around 1 mm every 90 seconds, or 1 inch every
40 minutes). Giant bamboos are the largest members of the grass family.
Bamboos are of notable economic and cultural significance in South Asia, Southeast Asia
and East Asia, being used for building materials, as a food source, and as a versatile raw product.
Bamboo has a higher specific compressive strength than wood, brick or concrete, and a specific
tensile strength that rivals steel.
The bamboos comprise three clades classified as tribes, and these strongly correspond with
geographic divisions representing the New World herbaceous species, tropical woody bamboos,
and temperate woody bamboos. The woody bamboos do not form a monophyletic group; instead,
the tropical woody and herbaceous bamboos are sister to the temperate woody bamboos.
Altogether, more than 1,400 species are placed in 115 genera.
The two general patterns for the growth of bamboo are "clumping" (sympodial) and
"running" (monopodial). Clumping bamboo species tend to spread slowly, as the growth pattern
of the rhizomes is to simply expand the root mass gradually, similar to ornamental grasses.
"Running" bamboos, though, need to be controlled during cultivation because of their potential
for aggressive behavior. They spread mainly through their rhizomes, which can spread widely
underground and send up new culms to break through the surface.
40. What is the objective of the text?
A. To explain how bamboos grow.
B. To classify several kinds bamboos
C. To give information about bamboo.
D. To describe particular bamboo trees.
E. To tell the readers the origin of bamboo.

41. How can we compare the idea in paragraph 2 and 4?

bamboo.

bamboo.
C. Paragraph 2 talks about the growth of bamboo, while paragraph 4 is about the growth
pattern.
D. Paragraph 2 talks about how bamboos grow, while paragraph 4 is about description of
bamboo.
E. Paragraph 2 talks about the description of bamboo, while paragraph 4 is about its
classification.

I've been travelling round the USA solo for about 4 weeks now. I'm 21 years, this is the
first time I've been away from home and had to be independent which seems pretty nerve
wracking but I ended up adapting so quickly to it as I had no other choice. I've always been a
loner, introvert type, so I'm completely fine with my own company. A lot of people were
surprised when I said I was travelling alone, as I’ve always been such a shy and petite girl so it's
great just to show them what I can do, and it’s absolutely trebled my confidence!
I stayed in hostels, where I learnt it was so easy to meet new people. At the start of my
trip I was really eager to meet new people, but now I'm at the end of my trip, I couldn't care less?
It's like I've got so used to being on my own. Please tell me I'm not the only one that feels this
way because I feel so antisocial?
Travelling solo as a female definitely has its pros and cons. But if I had the choice I still
would travel solo as it has helped improve my confidence so much. The downsides are carrying
your heavy luggage, and night time. Night time sucks if you're on your own because it’s too
dangerous to be outside, so you're just sat alone in the hostel by 7pm!
The past 2 weeks I have started to feel the loneliness. It's not fun not having anyone to
share the awesome things you're seeing or anyone to talk about what you're going through. So in
that sense I am ready to come home. I've had the trip of a lifetime, and I've loved travelling solo
at such a young age because it gives me so much independence and confidence, and proves I can
do things! Although I've liked travelling solo, I don't think I'll do it again anytime soon. I
definitely think I'll have a travel buddy on my next trip as I've really missed having someone to
talk to.
48. What problem did the writer feel when she began her solo travel?
A. Being timid and has a small body.
B. Having nobody accompanying her.
C. Having no experience in travelling.
D. Being a selfish and antisocial person.
E. Having to leave her friends and family.

49. What would likely happen if the writer stayed in a hotel?

A. She would not feel unsociable.
B. She would meet a lot of barrier.
