If you need any help with the installation of Guru content manager, or for questions or concerns related to the
software, please contact the Schlumberger Software Support Portal.

The content manager is a standalone piece of software. It is used to create and update content locations for
Guru to link to. It can also get the latest and most up to date versions of the Schlumberger content as well as
helping you manage your own content and who can view it.

The same version of content manager is used to control content locations for both Petrel Guru and Techlog
Guru.

For more information on what Guru content manager can do see the Guru content manager Help available after
installation (see Running Guru Content Manager for more information).

Installing the Software


Note: Ensure the version of Guru software that you would like to install matches the version of Petrel you have
installed.

1. Run the GuruContentManager.msi.


a. If a warning message appears stating “The publisher could not be verified”, this is OK. Click
Run to continue.
2. The MSI will load, displaying the Welcome to the Guru Content Manager 2018 Setup Wizard screen.
Click Next to continue.

3. The Installing Guru Content Manager 2018 screen is displayed, with a progress bar depicting the
progress of the installation. Note: If you have User Account Control enabled, a prompt will appear
asking for an administrator to enter their Windows credentials in order to proceed with the installation.
4. When the installation has finished, the Completed the Content Manager 2018 Setup Wizard screen is
displayed. Click Finish.

Uninstalling Guru Content Manager


On a Windows 7 machine:

1. From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel.


2. Select to Uninstall a program or Programs and features
3. From the list provided find the version of ‘Guru Content Manager’ you wish to uninstall.
4. Select it and then click Uninstall from the top menu.
5. This process will uninstall all local components of Guru with the exception of the Save data (see Guru
content manager save location). Once uninstalled, this folder can be deleted manually if desired. This
process will not affect the public directory.

On a Windows 10 machine:

1. From the Start Menu, select Settings.


2. Select System on the Settings menu.
3. Select Apps & features from the left pane.
4. From the list provided find the version of ‘Guru Content Manager’ you wish to uninstall.
5. Select it and then click on the Uninstall button.
6. This process will uninstall all local components of Guru with the exception of the Save data (see Guru
content manager save location). Once uninstalled, this folder can be deleted manually if desired. This
process will not affect the public directory.

If you encounter any errors whilst uninstalling Guru Content Manager, please try the following steps:
1. From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel.
2. Select to Uninstall a program or Programs and features
3. From the list provided find the version of ‘Guru Content Manager’ you wish to uninstall.
4. Select it and then click Repair from the top menu.
5. A ‘Guru Content Manager’ installer with a progress bar will appear and should repair the installation.
6. You should now be able to uninstall ‘Guru Content Manager’ using the steps described at the start of
this section.

Guru content manager save location


By default, actions carried out in Guru content manager are saved locally to a folder in your Windows
‘Documents’ directory. If you do not have a ‘Documents’ directory available you must change this to an available
directory. This can be done by
• Navigate to your Guru content manager installation directory.
• Open the file Slb.Guru.ContentManager.exe.config in a text editor.
• Change the <value> entry (shown below) to an available directory on your machine. Note: Guru Content
Manager now accepts the value ‘&lt;localappdata&gt;’, which will link to the users local app data
directory.

Running Guru Content Manager


From the Windows Start Menu navigate to Schlumberger -> Guru. In here you will be able to run the Guru
Content Manager software or launch the help documentation.

1. Adds a folder to the Program Files\Schlumberger\Guru directory called Guru Content Manager 2018

5. Adds the following files to the Techlog folder in the Program Files\Schlumberger\Guru\Guru Content
Manager 2018 directory
• GuruSettings.xml

6. Adds a certificate to the Local Machine > Trusted People folder.
