My Journey

Throughout this long process, I would say the biggest thing I learned about

myself and the biggest thing I will take away from this is that I am capable of achieving

any goal I want as long as I have the grit and determination to do so. A large portion of

last year was filled with me doubting myself and my abilities to accomplish what I

wanted, but this experience and learning something on my own has helped me realize

that I am able to succeed. I know that baking cookies is not the biggest accomplishment

of all, but it opened my eyes to the other many things I can do. In addition to this, I

believe I have grown as a person because this taught me that it is necessary for me to

step outside of my comfort zone, and that I need to not always do the things I have

been familiar with my whole life. I had little to no experience baking, let alone doing

anything in the kitchen, and to see how far I have come in only a couple months helped

me realize the true importance of trying new things. To continue my journey, I will find

new recipes and new foods to bake because it is something I enjoyed doing, and I want

to be able to grow even more. Also, if something interests me, I will be more willing to

try it now knowing what I am capable of doing.

My Writing

During this journey, I had the opportunity of being able to explore different genres

of writing, and I was surprised to find out that I was able to enjoy the process even more

because of how less structured it was. For example, the Buzzfeed article I wrote for my
abyss forced me to write in more of a dramatic style, which let me use more creativity

and make more of my own choices. Writing in many different genres and styles

ultimately showed me how each genre is effective in their own way when it comes to

communicating what you know, and there is lots of room for creativity and your own

voice in each. I would say one of the strongest parts of my project in my opinion is my

abyss because I was able to show two different points of view effectively with dialogue,

and I was able to use more of a dramatic tone. One of the weaker parts of my project

was probably my script. I decided to do this format just to be able to try it out, but I feel it

was not my most successful and my voice does not shine through it as much. During

my project I was careful in choosing each genre for each stage of the process to make

sure my voice was clear and it made sense. For the first challenge, I wrote a

conversation between me and my mentor in text messages from my mentor’s

perspective. This seemed like the most effective way to me because it gives my

mentor’s point of view during the process, and texting is something more current rather

than an email exchange. For my second challenge, I chose to write a script because I

thought it would be a good way to show communication between my mentor and I. For

my third challenge, I wrote journal entries because it was the best way to show my point

of view and what I was thinking throughout my journey.

Grade
I worked very hard on completing this project in all aspects of it whether it was

baking the cookies on the weekends, writing the essays, or creating and designing my

weebly. At the end of the day I am not the one who has a say in what grade I get, but in

my opinion I do believe I earned an A. In the beginning it was evident that I was not the

greatest at baking, but I was determined to keep improving, and I believe I did. Not only

this, but I worked extra hard on the several essays I wrote to be able to prove my

accomplishment, and carefully chose the genres and ways I was writing to make sure

my voice and tone was clear and effective. I enjoyed having this experience, and hope

all of the work I put into this earns me the grade I deserve.
