THE REPORT ON FOREX MARKET

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The foreign exchange market is the buying, selling and exchanging of currencies at the
current price or the determined price, it is also called as OTC (over the counter). And the
international commodity market deal with Gold, Silver, Crude oil, Natural Gas etc.

This market is open 24/5 throughout the year except for particular country holidays, the
market opens on early morning Monday 2:30 am and the market closes on early morning
Saturday 2:30 am.

This is a spot market, so it does not have any expiry, but the Indian market has expiry date. It
is a two-way market where we can both buy and sell.

As an investment firm I had to deal with different clients, setting of appointments and making
sure the deal goes through and managing their portfolio’s once their account is opened.

I have successfully managed to bring in clients to the company’s network, this in turn
achieved my target of client acquisition. As far as the training which was given to me for the
first 15 days helped me confidently talk to the clients and make them invest and also the
training helped me in managing the portfolios of the client effectively and the training helped
me get the first-hand knowledge about the forex and commodity market.

PART-I

CHAPTER-1: INTRODUCTION:
Financial services are the economic services provided by the finance industry, which
encompasses a broad range of businesses that manage money, including credit unions, banks,
credit card companies, insurance companies, accountancy companies, consumer finance
companies, stock brokerages, investment funds and some government –sponsored enterprises.
Foreign exchange services are provided by many banks and specialist foreign exchange
brokers around the world. Foreign exchange services include:

 Currency exchange - where clients can purchase and sell foreign currency banknotes.

 Wire transfer - where clients can send funds to international banks abroad.

 Remittance - where clients that are migrant workers send money back to their home
country.

 We can also predict the market using Analysis

 Analysis is an examination of the changes in the market that are used by a trader to
determine whether to buy or sell a currency pair or commodity at any one time.
 Forex analysis could be technical in nature, using charting tools, or fundamental,
using economic indicators and/or news-based events.

There are three types Analysis

1. Technical analysis
2. Fundamental analysis
3. Sentimental analysis

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS:
Technical analysis is the study of historical price action in order to identify patterns and
determine probabilities of future movements in the market through the use
of technical studies, indicators, and other analysis tools.
There are several technical indicators that can be used to analyse the trend, some of them are
as follows

 Candlestick

 Pivot Point

7|Page
 Moving Average

 Bollinger Bands

 Relative Strength Index

FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS:
Fundamental analysis is a method of analysing financial markets with the purpose of price
forecasting. Forex fundamental analysis focuses on the overall state of the economy, and
researches various factors including interest rates, employment, GDP, international trade and
manufacturing, as well as their relative impact on the value of the national currency they
relate to.

SENTIMENTAL ANALYSIS:
Each trader has his or her own opinion of why the market is acting the way it does.

PESTEL ANALYSIS:

CHAPTER-2: INDUSTRY PROFILE:

CONCEPT OF FOREX MARKET:

The Forex market is the market in which participants are able to buy, sell, exchange and
speculate on currencies. The forex markets is made up of banks, commercial companies,
central banks, investment management firms, hedge funds, and retail forex brokers and
investors. The currency market considered to be the largest financial market in the world,
processing trillions of dollars’ worth of transactions each day.

And in commodity market they deal with Gold and Silver

Political factors:
In general, FX markets are lightly political because developed nations want to release
restrictions on the flow of global capital. For example, if UK would join euro zone then the
global forex trade would decline only 2%. I think in next five years the political intervention
to the forex market fundamentals will continually diminish.
Economic factors:
Forex market is global borderless and liquid financial market that operates 24 hours a day.
According to Keynes macroeconomic uncertainty lead people to stay or invest in more liquid
instruments. Because of its high liquidity, growth and profit potential, easy entry and exit.
Forex retail market is continuously attractive market in next five years. As a zero-sum game,
trading needs discipline and comprehensive market context analysis and therefore the service
of proprietary trading will have significant role in growth potential.
Social factors:
Retail forex trades are not guaranteed by a clearing organization and forex market has not
been the safest for participant. Over the last few years there has been a sharp rise in foreign
currency scams. This ethical issue has alerted governments to regulate the market. Although
in U.S NFA tries to regulate it, the global openness has enabled them to regulate many but
not all forex firms. Despite additional regulation will most probably appear in next five years,
the ‘increased legitimacy and transparency should fuel forex’s continued growth’

Technological factors:
Trading in the FX spot market is typically commission-free when done over electronic
trading systems, and the spread has fallen dramatically over the last five years as a result of
improved technology. Trading systems have been so far the collection of indicators and chart
patterns that one examines to determine when to enter or exit a particular market.
The speculative nature of the market is interested in relative movements of currencies. It
depends on large amount of information and variables, winners are those who can interpret
them quicker and more accurately. I believe that in the future computerized analysing tools
will play very significant role.

10 | P a g e
Legal factors:
Forex has so far been largely unregulated marketplace. I think low transparency and
legitimacy will lead to additional regulation in order to protect newcomers and relatively
small participants in forex trading industry. Especially it will take place in proprietary trading
where traders collect customers’ money for speculation on behalf of customers over their
own account. This trend will result in higher regulatory and capital need barriers to entry the
market. For example, in U.S you have to apply for membership in NFA and obey their
regulation in the market, e.g. net capital has to equal at least $20,000,000

Environment:
These factors include all that influence the surrounding environment. Factors of a business
environmental analysis include but are not limited to climate, weather, geographical location,
global changes in climate, environmental offsets etc.

 Weather

 Climate change

 Laws regulating environment pollution

In conclusion the PESTEL analysis shows that the market should stay attractive during next
five years. The continued growth potential and fierce cost competition will lead to attaching
value added services to trading systems. Proper information synthesis of the currency market
impacts customer profitability which will become the driver of scaling the volume of trading.
Higher needs for comprehensive market knowledge and professional approach increase
customers demand for proprietary service.

Different currencies traded in the market

TYPES OF TRADERS
Intraday: It is a market where trader buys and sells the securities/currencies
within a day.
Short – term: It is market where trader takes a position less than 365 days.

12 | P a g e
Long – term: It is market where trader takes a position for more than 365 days.
Swing Trader: It is market where trader holds the position for 1 day to 15 days
TYPES OF CANDLE STICK PATTERNS

1. Hammer Candlestick & Hanging man candlestick:

Hammer candlestick pattern is a bullish reversal pattern in technical analysis. The pattern
looks like a hammer. The pattern has one candle. It forms a downtrend and considered as a
market bottom/support. Hanging man Candlestick pattern is a bearish reversal pattern, which
forms uptrend and considered as market top or a resistance price.

2. Piercing candle stick patterns:

Piercing candlestick serve as an indicator that it is time to either buy a stock or close out short
positions because the stock may be trending upward soon. As per the piercing candle, the
new candle (green candle) should be low and should close down 50% of the previous candle.
If the significant down trend follows, it is Bearish or otherwise bullish.

3. Engulfing:
Is a bullish reversal pattern, usually occurring at the bottom of a downtrend? The pattern
consists of two candlesticks. When a significant downtrend (red candle) is followed, the new
candle should make a new low and high simultaneously, but the previous candle should cover
inside the body. If the bullish is formed (green candle), note that market will shoot up.

13 | P a g e
Is considered a bearish reversal pattern, usually occurring at the top of an uptrend. The
pattern consists of two candlesticks. When a significant uptrend (green candle), new candle is
formed which makes new high and low simultaneously, but the previous candle should cover
inside the body. If the bearish is formed (red candle), note that market will shoot downwards.

4. Morning star:
The morning star is a reversal pattern of technical analysis. The pattern has three candles
forming at a bottom of the downtrend. The first candle is long and bearish. The second candle
is small and indecisive candlestick. The third candle is longs and bullish candle.

5. Evening star:
The evening star candlestick pattern is also a reversal pattern. This pattern has three
candles. It forms at a top of an uptrend. The first candle is any long and bullish
candle. The second candle is a small and indecisive candlestick. The third candle is
any long and bearish candle.

14 | P a g e
SUPPORT & RESISTANCE:

From the above diagram, the zigzag pattern is making its way up (bull or buy market). When
the forex market moves up and pulls back, the highest point reached before it pulled back is
call ‘Resistance’. As the market continues goes up again, the lowest point reached before it,
started back called ‘Support’.

It is usually the last decimal place of a quotation. Most pairs go out 4 decimal places, but
there are some exceptions like Japanese Yen pairs (they go out to two decimal places.)

Lot:
In the past, spot forex was only traded in specific amounts called lots, or basically the
number of currency units you will buy or sell. The standard size for a lot is 1, 00,000 units of
currency, and now, there also mini, micro, and lot sizes that are 10,000, and 100 units
respectively.

Leverage:
It is the amount which will hold the investor but not necessarily keep, this is how small
investors can trade in such large amounts of money. The amount of leverage depends on the
broker, typically they require trade deposit, which is also known as account margin. Once the
amount is deposited the investor will be able to trade, and the broker will also specify how
much they require per position (lot) traded. For e.g., if the leverage is 100:1 it means if you
want to trade at $100,000 but you have only $5000, at this time the broker would set aside
$1000 as down payment, or the margin, and let you borrow the rest. Any losses or gains will
add up to remaining balance.

Task assigned: Training on forex market
The first week in second month continued with training on forex market
There are two main things that every trader should consider and be aware of, where they must
enter and exit,
They are:
Take profit and Stop loss

Take Profit: Take profit is the amount of money you intend to make in a trade. In your order,
you specify a price at which you will close your trade. The take profit is also called as “Profit
target”.

Stop Loss: Stop loss relating to an order to sell a security or commodity at a specified price in
order to limit a loss.

31 | P a g e
Task assigned: Training on technical indicators
Third month they trained on technical indicators Technical indicators that use the same scale
as prices are plotted over the top of the prices on a stock chart. Oscillators - Technical
indicators that oscillate between a local minimum and maximum are plotted above or below a
price chart.
The technical indicators help in knowing the direction of the markets or the trend followed by
the markets and oscillators which helps when there is no trend in the market.
Under trend there are: Moving average and Bollinger bands.
Moving average: it is one of the important mathematical indicators, which is used to show
the average price movements of a security over a period. These are used to highlight the
direction of a trend. It should be noted that the period doesn’t always need to be in days. It
can also be calculated using minutes, hours, weeks, months, quarters, yearly etc.
There are 2 types of moving averages:
Simple moving average and Exponential moving average.
Simple moving average: This is the most common method which is used to calculate the
moving averages of prices. It can be calculated simply by taking the sum of all past closing
prices over the time and divides the result by the number of prices used in the calculation.
Exponential moving average: This is more effective than SMA because it uses a
smoothening factor to place a higher weight on recent data points. And, EMA is more
responsive to new information compared to SMA. This is the reason why technical analysts
prefer more EMA than any other types of moving averages. It is calculated by using the
following formula.
EMA= (current closing price *factor) + (previous day closing price*(1-factor))
Where factor = 2/n+1.

32 | P a g e
Bollinger bands:
This helps in knowing market volatility through support and resistance level. This indicator
includes 3 bands (lines) which means when the close price is near to the upper band it shows
over bought in market and similarly when the close price is near the lower band it shows
signal for over sold in market and this is what most of the traders believes.

Task assigned: Training on technical indicators and Indian market

Third month they continued with training on technical indicators and Indian market

Under oscillators there are: Relative strength Index and Stochastic oscillator.

Relative strength index: It is one of the powerful and popular indicators, which indicates
overbought and oversold market conditions along with the signals of buying and selling
opportunities in the market. If the RSI is rising in the overbought zone, it would indicate the
downfall of the price, if RSI falls in the overbought zone it gives clear signal of selling. The
term overbought describes the price level at which momentums can be no longer be

33 | P a g e
maintained and the prices must fall down. The term oversold describes that a security or
market that has declined to an unreasonably low level.

Stochastic oscillator:
It refers to a point of current price in relation to its price range over a period. This indicator
uses a support and resistance level. And this contains two lines red and blue where blue
indicates demand and red indicates supply and the curves will be moving between 20-80%. In
this when blue curve cuts red curve from below it means the prices are moving up and gives
buy signal, vice versa when red cuts blue from below.

• Here take profit and stop loss are two main things which is very important to every
trader in order to know the where to enter and exit.

• Application of these two options in demo accounts in each and every trade I execute
and checking which ratio would be better, usually 2:1 works better.

• Stop loss and take profit is very important in stock market when we apply this there is
a less chances of losing money and more chances of gaining.

• So, every trader should apply stop loss and take profit.

• The relative strength index and stochastic oscillator helps in knowing the present
movements on hourly, daily, weekly and monthly basis, based on which the trader
gives a buy and sell call for the currency.

• The difference between the RSI and Stochastic oscillator was RSI will only have one
trend line and Stochastic has 2 lines which is, red line indicates supply and blue line
indicates demand.

• So, when blue cuts red from below it means price will go up and it is a buy signal and

we suggest clients to invest.

• Research analysis was helpful to know the market movements we were able to
suggest the existing clients to take up calls.

CONCLUSION

Forex market is a very volatile market that’s why some people choose either to stay away or
invest very less. Some invest without even analysing the market. But if we have proper
knowledge then an investor can gain a lot. Investing without knowledge will give us nothing.
So, if we even think to invest in currency and commodity market, we should do proper
analysis. Fundamental as the word suggests will give us basic knowledge of the happening in
the economy. This acts a very powerful indicator because the economy of a nation is the first
thing a person should analyse while investing. Technical is the statistical measure that gives
us the analysis. We should check all the technical indicators before investing. If more that
50% of our indicators suggests buy, then we should go for it.
In currency and commodity market, if our technical are giving us a positive sign and we have
a negative fundamental then things might not go as though. There could be a negative impact.
So, a person should invest with proper analysis, by analysing both fundamental and technical
as both go hand in hand.
