Dr. Jose Rizal's Remarkable Goodbye

Mi Ultimo Adios is a poem written by our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal and was
originally published in Hong Kong by Mariano Ponce dated way back 1897. Dr. Jose Rizal
wanted to express his sorrow in a way that it will be a wake-up call to the readers to follow and
continue his legacies in showing his love for our country rather than to feel pity for him for his
fate. I have read that he really wanted the best for our country and he really was a nationalistic
person with his steady faith for Our Creator. Dr. Jose Rizal ought his experiences and deeds in
life to awaken the hearts and minds of every Filipinos to protect our country and be worthy of the
liberty that we always wanted to have.

By Dr. Jose Rizal’s death, he wanted to be remembered not just by his achievements and
success but at most by how he lived his life in its most purposeful way to serve our country. The
legacies he has are his morals and lifestyle that he wanted to serve as a guideline to us, Filipinos.
He wanted to flame up the torch of nationality fueled by aspirations to free our country from the
colonizers. He wanted to open our eyes to see the reality and lend our ears to hear the mourn of
our fellowmen in order to awaken ourselves to reach help and do action to protect our nation. As
in his statement, “Our Liberty will not be secured at sword's point. We must secure it by being
worthy of it", protecting and fighting for our country may not be in terms blood shed but by the
willingness to show others that Filipinos are worthy of the liberty we cried for through acquiring
and developing our knowledge and skills to do so. It is also by means of showing the love for
God, people, life, country and nature in simplest possible ways like showing good morals and
being a responsible and a disciplined citizen of this country yet keeping our feet on the ground
and not forgetting Our Creator. With all of these, I can say that Dr. Jose Rizal’s life was given
justice even if some thinks it is not for having the issues of our society today. It is for I,
personally admire him and I wanted to have a remarkable life as well and when I leave the Earth,
I will be contented and happy.

When I pass away, I want to be remembered as someone who is not just successful in life
by means of wealth but a happy woman with a pure heart and the legacies of having other lives
changes for the better. A woman who does not stick and choose to those who she helps but reach
out to all those who need help. I want to be someone with a great influence to others especially to
the youths to not just claim the success by having luxuries and lots of money but the purity of the
heart and mind. I want to fulfil my dream to build a community specifically, a charity foundation
for the homeless. There are a lot of foundations for the orphans, for the aged, for those with
sickness and also for those who need educational and medical assistance but seeing that there are
still a lot of homeless people in the streets, it boosts my eagerness to raise help for them. In
connection to that, I want be build a learning center for them as well but not limited to them.
When I return to Our Creator, the reason I want to have may not be like what Dr. Jose Rizal have
but I think, it should be a natural death yet feeling the fulfilment with all the things I have done
for our homeland especially to the citizens of this country. I want to return to Him peacefully
with all the love and happiness in my heart that I have served my purpose in this world.
