CORONA VIRUS – Cyprus Update

In Cyprus, the total number of positive cases is 46 so far. In a statement, the Ministry of Health
says that according to new information
received by the Cyprus Institute of
Neurology and Genetics, 13 new cases
have been confirmed.

There are 11 incidents, including 10


health professionals at Paphos General
Hospital and one patient who had
contact with a confirmed case,
hospitalized in the intensive care unit,
as well as two people who had
returned from the United Kingdom and
Greece and showed symptoms.

The Ministry of Health's


Epidemiological Surveillance Unit has
already begun tracking the contacts and all 13 cases and will proceed with sampling for
specialized examinations.

The Republic's measure of non-


entry into Cyprus is in effect
from 18.00 yesterday, unless
they hold the necessary medical
certificate of coronavirus
control.

A 14-day restriction at
government designated areas
was imposed on passengers
that arrived at Larnaca and Paphos airports after the measure was implemented.
The Minister of Transport, Yiannis Karoussos, rushed to Larnaca Airport last night, following
protests and tensions, overwhelmed by passengers who did not want to return to the countries
they left because they failed to obtain a medical certificate.

All passengers, he said, would exit the aircraft and go into isolation, in line with Ministry of
Health procedures.

He also said that today the government would discuss with the Attorney General the measures
he would take against the airline and / or those who allowed the embarkation of the people,
since there was a Notam and they should not have boarded the aircraft.

Also, today the government will announce what happens to cases of a certain peculiarity,
namely they Cypriot citizens who either went abroad for health reasons, went on vacation, or
because there was a problem and a solution should be given.

Yiannis Karoussos made it clear that what was done yesterday and under the circumstances,
will not be allowed again, sending the message that no airline and no one should try to violate
the issued decree.

other Cypriot citizens abroad find
it very difficult to obtain the
necessary medical certificate, the
Minister of Transport said that
today the government will
announce how they will solve
some problems for our
compatriots, who in the midst of
the issuance of the decree have
remained abroad.

Measures to prevent coronavirus are also being taken by the National Guard. Among other
things, permanent and national guards, belonging to vulnerable groups of people, will remain in
their homes.

All staff will be rotated, and the units will be transported at half the bus capacity.

At the same time new revised directives have been issued by the Ministry of Health, while the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a new travel directive.
