MIDNIGHT SUN

Midnight sun is an American film and that has the genre of drama and romance that was
released year 2018. It was directed by Scott Speer and written by Eric Kirsten, this film is based
on a Japanese movie with the same name. Its runtime is 91 minutes and this film is starred by
Bella Thorne and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

The movie revolve around the 17-years old girl named Katie which is sheltered on her
home since childhood and is confined on home during day due to the rare disease she has that is
called Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) which is a disease that causes someone to become
extremely sensitivity to the rays of sun that even a small amount of light is deadly. Because of
her condition her father Jack settled that Katie should be home schooled. Katie mainly live her
life inside their house because of her condition. She sleeps at day and woke up at night. Every
single day since then she always watch Charlie which is her childhood crush on her window go
to school until he graduated high school.
It is already midnight while Charlie is partying and decided to walk out . He was
mesmerized when he saw Katie singing while playing her guitar at the train station and that’s
how she and Charlie met. After that night she forget her notebook because the first day she and
Charlie she rushed on packing her things and forgot it that’s why Charlie has it. She let her friend
Morgan to get it but after telling Morgan what happened she did not get the notebook to him
making Katie get the notebook and meet with Charlie. That moment gives Charlie a chance to
get noticed by her. They became friends then turned into couple and started to hang around, date
and have fun every single night. Even though they see is each other Charlie doesn't had an idea
about to the condition of Katie.
One night they decided to date. But when Charlie mentioned about the sunrise Katie
checked her watch and found out it is not working. Katie is rushing to go home and she was
running as fast as she could so that the sun doesn't touch her but sadly it touched her skin a little.
Charlie was shocked when he found out what is Katie’s condition. Because of that Katie avoided
Charlie and she decided to never see him again but Charlie was persistent to talk to Katie and be
with her again. Katie goes to a doctor and is told that her brain is contracting due to the sun
exposure and she's starting to get twitches also the organization that helps people with this
condition closed that’s why receiving treatments for her condition lessen and she started to
become weaker as days goes by.
On another one of their dates, Charlie takes Katie to a recording studio where he hired
musicians to help her record a song she wrote called "Charlie's Song." She records it even though
she's getting sicker and weaker. Charlie uploads the song on YouTube. Soon after Charlie says
he's going to clean up the boat one last time before the owners get back and Katie begs her dad to
let her go sailing around the harbor with Charlie, even though the sunlight is out. It's clear at this
point she is dying, and this is her dying wish. They go sailing, and we see flashbacks of their
romance.

The last scene is Morgan, Charlie, and Katie's dad spreading her ashes in the water where
she used to play guitar with her mom. Charlie is then shown going to Berkeley for college and to
swim when he hears "Charlie's Song" playing on the radio. We're told it has two million
YouTube views. Charlie texts Katie's dad to open the radio to hear the song of Katie and he
played the song for his whole office. Charlie pulls over as the song is playing and reads a final
letter Katie wrote him in her journal that she left for him, professing her gratitude and love for
him.
 In this movie we learned that having a disease or flaws doesn’t stop you to express and to
love other people, it also teach us that even though this world is full of negativity we should
always stay positive even though life is being, it also teach us that never give up even though it is
hard to win. We can also rely on the touching relationship between Katie and her father Jack
The best scene in the film is when Katie prepares her widowed dad for a life without her.
The movie makes a point to tell you that it’s important to move on and continue to embrace
life. Lastly this movie teaches me to live by Faith and enjoy every single moment of your life
because we only live once. Because you will never know what will happen in the future or whom
you will lose and when you will be gone.

The main point of the film is that even though life is being tough because of her disease
anyone is free to love and be loved by anyone, how memories are important and not giving up
through challenges. We could relate it through study of communication like the meaning is the
heart of communication that made us understand that words from the actors really have meaning
that could make anyone feel emotional about the hard situation also Intrapersonal
communication because we started to question ourselves and also answered by ours too like what
if that will happen to us, are we ready to die young and etc. and also make us reflect.

The film punctuate its point by showing some scenes that shows how we could go
through this even though it is less possible like how Katie fight on the disease even though there
is a slight amount of possibility to survive also they showed how everyone do deserved to be
loved by anyone and the flashbacks shows how memories are important especially when our
loves one die.

The lessons we learned are that everyone has the freedom to choose and love anyone they
wishes too, Never give up on life and have faith , enjoy life because it could last anytime. In
regard to communication the message of the film make us emotional because the film is like
talking to us that make us reflect on ourselves.
