En 4960 se publicé una segunda edicién de esta obra que se constituyo en objeto de consulta para profesionales y técnicos ligados al sector, llevando al Instituto a realizar varias roimpresianes. ‘A nadie escapa la profundidad de las transformaciones tecnolégicas que han tenido lugar en los 40 ajios transcurridos desde aquolla segunda edician 1a aceleracién de estas transformaciones ha generado palabras nuevas para nombrar aquello que no existia o no se conocia. Por otra pare, el proceso de globalizacién de la industria exige cada vez una mayor perfeccion en la traducci6n. Frente a esta realidad consideramos que era ineludible contar con un instrumento que facilitara el acceso a la moderna terminologia, entendiendo como tales palabras. modismos, expresiones 0 siglas que describen conceptos, objetos actividades relacionadas con el quehacer que nos ocupa. Foreword The first edition of the Oil Industry Technical Glossary came to light in 1952. 1 was published by the then Argentine Section of the Instituto Sudamericano del Petréleo (South American Oil Institute) which turned to be the Instituto Argentino del Petréleo (Argentine Oil Institute) in 1957 which furthermore became the Instituto Argentino dol Petréleo y de! Gas (Argentine Oil and Gas Institute) in 1996. A second edition was published in 1960, which represented a piece of consultation to professionals ana tecnnictans related t the sector and several reprints were published. Nobody can ignore the depth of technological innovations the industry has undergone in the 40 years passed since that second edition. Hastening of those transformations has generated new words to refer to what did not exist, or was not known before. Thus, the preparation of the Spanish/English-English/Spanish Technical Dictionary of the Oil and Gas Industry was fared with the conviction of beina presenting a working tool adapted to current times.
