DISEASE

 All praise is due to Allah who responds to the call of the distressed
when they invoke Him and Who saves the bewildered when they call
upon Him and Who removes harm and relieves burdens. Hearts are
not enlivened except through His remembrance, and nothing occurs
except by His Permission, and no disliked thing is ridded except
by His Mercy, and nothing is preserved except with His Power,
and nothing desired is attained except with His Assistance, and no
happiness is acquired except through His obedience. 

All praise is due to Allah and peace and blessings upon the Prophet
Muhammad (‫)ﷺ‬, his companions and followers.

These are some beneficial pieces of advice as a reminder on

the occasion of the people’s fear of the pandemic known as the
Coronavirus. 

We ask Allah to relieve all of the Muslims, wherever they are, of all
harm and distress, and that He protect us all with what He protects
His righteous servants.

Say the Following
Three Times in the Morning and
Three Times in the Evening

‫َق َال َر ُس ُول اللَّ ِه صىل الله عليه وسلم‏‬

‫‏ َما ِم ْن َع ْب ٍد َي ُق ُول ِف َص َبا ِح ك ُِّل َي ْو ٍم َو َم َسا ِء ك ُِّل لَ ْيلَة‬
ٍ ‫ش ٌء ِف األَ ْر ِض َوالَ ِف‬ َْ ‫ض َم َع ْاس ِم ِه‬ ُُّ ‫” ب ِْس ِم اللَّ ِه الَّ ِذي الَ َي‬ The Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said:

‫ش ٌء‬
َْ ‫ض ُه‬ ُُّ ‫ات َف َي‬ٍ ‫يم “ �ثَال ََث َم َّر‬ ُ ِ‫يع الْ َعل‬ُ ‫الس ِم‬
َّ ‫و‬َ ‫ه‬
ُ ‫و‬
َ ِ
‫ء‬ ‫الس َم‬ 
َّ “Whoever recites the following three times
in the morning will not be afflicted by any
calamity before evening, and whoever
Bismillāh alladhi lā yaḍurru ma‘a ismihi shay’un recites it three times in the evening will not
fi’l-arḍi wa la fi’-l-samā’, wa huwa’l-Samī`ul-`Alīm be overtaken by any calamity by morning:

Bismillāh, alladhi la yaḍurru ma`a ismihi

shai’un fil-arḍi wa la fis-samā’, wa huwa’l-
Samī`ul `Alīm – 

‘In the Name of Allah, Who with His Name

nothing can cause harm in the earth nor in
the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the
All-Knowing.” (Tirmidhi)

2 Say
Frequently For Allah says, 

‫ُنت ِم َن الظَّالِ ِم َني‬
ُ ‫نت ُس ْب َحان ََك إِ ِّن ك‬
There is no deity except You; exalted are You.
Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.
La ilaha illa anta subḥanka inni kuntu mina’l-dhālimīn
‫َاض ًبا َفظَ َّن أَن لَّن‬ِ ‫َو َذا ال ُّنونِ إِذ َّذ َه َب ُمغ‬
َ َ‫َّل إِلَٰ َه إِ َّل أ‬
‫نَّ ْق ِد َر َعلَ ْي ِه َف َنا َد ٰى ِف الظُّلُ َم ِت أَن َّل إِلَٰ َه‬
‫ُنت ِم َن الظَّالِ ِم َني‬
ُ ‫نت ُس ْب َحان ََك إِ ِّن ك‬ َ َ‫إِ َّل أ‬
“And [mention] the man of the fish, when
he went off in anger and thought that We
would not decree [anything] upon him. And
he called out within the darknesses, ‘There
is no deity except You; exalted are You.
Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.’ 

‫َف ْاس َت َج ْب َنا لَ ُه َونَ َّج ْي َنا ُه ِم َن الْغ َِّم ج َوكَ َٰذلِ َك‬
‫ُنجي الْ ُم ْؤ ِم ِن َني‬ِ ‫ن‬
So We responded to him and saved him
from the distress. And thus do We save
the believers.” [Surat Al-Anbiya v. 87-88]

 Ibn Kathīr said about “And as such we save the believers.
If they are in distress and they call upon Us in repentance,
especially if they call upon Us with this supplication in
moments of distress.”

‫وت الَ إِلَ َه إِ َّال‬ِ ‫‏ َد ْع َو ُة ِذي ال ُّنونِ إِ ْذ َد َعا َو ُه َو ِف َبطْ ِن ا ْل ُح‬ Ibn al-Qayyim said in Al-Fawā’id, “Nothing
‫‏ َفإِن َُّه لَ ْم َي ْد ُع ِب َها َر ُج ٌل‬.‫ني‬ ‫أَن َْت ُس ْب َحان ََك إِ ِّن كُ ْن ُت ِم َن الظَّالِ ِم َ‏‬ repels harm in this world like tawḥīd, and
as such the supplication of distress is an
َ ‫ش ٍء َق ُّط إِالَّ ْاس َت َج‬
‫اب اللَّ ُه لَ ُه ‏‬ ْ َ ‫ُم ْسلِ ٌم ِف‬ invocation of tawḥīd, and the supplication
of Yūnus the one by which no one in
distress invokes except that they are
relieved is also by tawḥīd.”
“The supplication of Prophet Yūnus when he supplicated
while in the belly of the whale was: ‘There is none worthy of
worship except You, Glory to You, Indeed, I have been of the
transgressors. (La ilaha illa anta subḥanka inni kuntu mina’l-
dhālimīn).’ So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for
anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.” (Tirmidhi)

3 Seek Refuge from

Severe Calamities 

‫َع ِن ال َّنب ِِّي صىل الله عليه وسلم َق َال‬

،‫ َو ُسو ِء الْ َقضَ ا ِء‬،‫ َو َد َر ِك الشَّ َقا ِء‬،‫تَ َع َّو ُذوا بِاللَّ ِه ِم ْن َج ْه ِد الْ َبالَ ِء‬
‫َو َش َمتَ ِة األَ ْع َدا ِء ‏‏‏‬
The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said,

“Take refuge with Allah from the difficulties

of severe calamities, from having an evil
end and a bad fate and from the malicious
joy of your enemies.” (Bukhāri)

Consistently Recite
the Supplication of
Leaving the House 

‫ أَنَّ ال َّنب َِّي صىل الله عليه وسلم َق َال ‏‬،‫َع ْن أَن َِس ْب ِن َمالِ ٍك‬
َ‫” إِ َذا َخ َر َج ال َّر ُج ُل ِم ْن َب ْي ِت ِه َف َق َال ب ِْس ِم اللَّ ِه تَ َوكَّلْ ُت َع َل اللَّ ِه ال‬
َ ‫يت َوكُ ِف‬
‫يت‬ َ ‫ال ‏ ‏” ُي َق ُال ِحي َن ِئ ٍذ ُه ِد‬‫‏ َق َ‏‬.“‫َح ْو َل َوالَ ُق َّو َة إِالَّ بِاللَّ ِه ‏‏ ‏‬
‫ف‬َ ‫اط ُني َف َي ُق ُول لَ ُه َش ْيطَانٌ آ َخ ُر كَ ْي‬ ِ ‫يت َف َت َت َن َّحى لَ ُه الشَّ َي‬ َ ‫َو ُو ِق‬
Narrated Anas b. Mālik:
“‫لَ َك ِب َر ُج ٍل َق ْد ُه ِد َي َوكُ ِف َي َو ُو ِق َي ‏‬
The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said: When a man goes
Bismillāh tawakkaltu ‘ala Allāh la ḥawla wa la out of his house and says: “In the name of
quwattah illah billāh Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and
no power but in Allah,” the following will be
said to him at that time: “You are guided,
defended and protected.” The devils will
go far from him and another devil will say:
How can you deal with a man who has
been guided, defended and protected?
(Abu Dāwūd)

5 Asking Allah for Protection in

the Morning and the Evening 
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said:

“The Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬never

abandoned these supplications, every
morning and evening: 

‫لَ ْم َيكُ ْن َر ُس ُول اللَّ ِه ـ صىل الله عليه وسلم‬ Allāhumma inni as’alukal-‘afwa wal-
‘āfiyah fi’l-dunya w’al-ākhirah. Allāhumma
‫ات ِح َني ُيْ ِس َو ِح َني ُي ْصب ُِح‬ َّ ‫ـ َي َد ُع َه ُؤالَ ِء‬
ِ ‫الد َع َو‬ inni as’alukal-‘afwa wal-‘āfiyah fi dīni wa
dunyāya wa ahli wa māli. Allāhumma astur
ُّ ‫اللَّ ُه َّم إِ ِّن أَ ْسأَلُ َك الْ َع ْف َو َوالْ َعا ِف َي َة ِف‬
‫الدنْ َيا َواآل ِخ َر ِة اللَّ ُه َّم إِ ِّن‬ ‘awrāti, wa āmin raw‘āti wa aḥfadhni min
bayni yadayya, wa min khalfi, wa ‘an yamīni
‫اى َوأَ ْه ِل َو َم ِال اللَّ ُه َّم‬ َ ‫أَ ْسأَلُ َك الْ َع ْف َو َوالْ َعا ِف َي َة ِف ِدي ِني َو ُدنْ َي‬ wa ‘an shimāli, wa min fawqi, wa a‘ūdhu
bika an ughtāla min taḥti 
‫ْاس ُ ْت َع ْو َر ِات َوآ ِم ْن َر ْو َع ِات َوا ْح َفظْ ِني ِم ْن َب ْ ِي َي َد َّى َو ِم ْن‬ (O Allah, I ask You for protection and well-
ْ‫َخلْ ِفي َو َع ْن َيِي ِني َو َع ْن ِش َم ِل َو ِم ْن َف ْو ِقي َوأَ ُعو ُذ ب َِك أَن‬ being in this world and in the Hereafter.
O Allah, I ask You for protection and well-
“‫أُ ْغ َت َال ِم ْن تَ ْح ِتي ‏‏‬ being in my religious and my worldly affairs,
my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal
my faults, calm my fears, and protect me
from in front of me and behind me, from
my right and my left, and from above me,
and I seek refuge in You from being taken
unaware from beneath me).”
(Ibn Mājah)

6 Make a
Lot of Du‘ā’

‫ َق َال َق َال َر ُس ُول اللَّ ِه صىل الله عليه وسلم‏‬،‫َع ِن ا ْب ِن ُع َم َر‬

‫اب ال َّر ْح َم ِة َو َما‬ ‫و‬ ‫ب‬
ْ َ
ُ َ ‫الد َعا ِء ُف ِت َح ْت لَ ُه أ‬ ُّ ‫اب‬ ُ ‫‏” َم ْن ُف ِت َح لَ ُه ِم ْنك ُْم َب‬
‫‏ َو َق َال‬.“‫ُس ِئ َل اللَّ ُه َش ْي ًئا َي ْع ِني أَ َح َّب إِلَ ْي ِه ِم ْن أَنْ ُي ْسأَ َل الْ َعا ِف َي َة ‏‏‬
Ibn ‘Umar narrated that the Messenger of
‫الد َعا َء َي ْن َف ُع ِم َّم نَ َز َل‬ ُّ َّ‫َر ُس ُول اللَّ ِه صىل الله عليه وسلم‏ ‏ ‏” إِن‬ Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said:

“‫ِالد َعا ِء ‏‏‬

ُّ ‫ َو ِم َّم لَ ْم َي ْن ِز ْل َف َعلَ ْيك ُْم ِع َبا َد اللَّ ِه ب‬  “Whomsoever of you the door of
supplication is opened for, the doors of
mercy have been opened for him. And
Allah is not asked for anything - meaning
- more beloved to Him, than being asked
for al-‘Āfiyah (safety and well-being).” And
the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said: “The
supplication benefits against that which
descends (of destiny) or that which does
not, so hold fast, O worshippers of Allah, to
supplication.” (Tirmidhi)

7 Quarantine

Narrated ‘Abdullāh b. ‘Āmir b. Rabi‘a:

‘Umar b. Al-Khaṭṭāb left for Shām, and when he

reached a placed called Sargh, he came to know ‫الَ ُيو ِر ُد الْ ُم ْم ِر ُض َع َل الْ ُم ِص ِّح‬
that there was an outbreak of an epidemic (of
plague) in Shām. Then ‘Abdu’l-Raḥmān b. ‘Awf told And he ‫ ﷺ‬said,
“The ill should not mix with the healthy” 
him that Allah›s Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬said, “If you hear (Bukhāri and Muslim) 
the news of an outbreak of an epidemic (plague)
in a certain place, do not enter that place: and if
the epidemic falls in a place while you are present
in it, do not leave that place to escape from the
epidemic.” So ‘Umar returned from Sargh. (Bukhāri)

9 The Night Prayer 

‫ أَنَّ َر ُس َول اللَّ ِه صىل الله عليه وسلم َق َال‬،‫َع ْن ِبال ٍَل‬
‫الصالِ ِح َني َق ْبلَك ُْم َوإِنَّ ِق َيا َم‬ َّ ‫” َعلَ ْيك ُْم ِب ِق َي ِام اللَّ ْي ِل َفإِن َُّه َدأْ ُب‬
َّ ِ‫اللَّ ْي ِل ُق ْر َب ٌة إِ َل اللَّ ِه َو َم ْن َها ٌة َع ِن ا ِإلثْ ِم َوتَكْ ِف ٌري ل‬
ِ ‫لس ِّي َئ‬
‫ات‬
“‫َو َمطْ َر َد ٌة لِ َّلدا ِء َع ِن الْ َج َس ِد ‏‏‬

Bilāl narrated that the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said:

“Hold fast to qiyām’l-layl, for it is the practice of the
righteous before you, and indeed qiyām’l-layl is a
means of nearness to Allah, a means of prevention
from sin, an expiation for bad deeds, and a barrier
for the body against disease.” (Tirrmidhi)

‫ َق َال َس ِم ْع ُت َر ُس َول اللَّ ِه صىل الله‬،‫َع ْن َجا ِب ِر ْب ِن َع ْب ِد اللَّ ِه‬

‫الس َن ِة‬
َّ ‫ف‬ ِ َّ‫ن‬ ِ ‫إ‬‫ف‬َ ‫ء‬ ‫ا‬‫ق‬
َ َِّ ‫الس‬ ‫ُوا‬ ‫ك‬‫و‬ْ َ ‫عليه وسلم َي ُق ُول “‏ َغطُّوا ا ِإلنَا َء َوأ‬
‫لَ ْيلَ ًة َي ْن ِز ُل ِفي َها َو َبا ٌء الَ َيُ ُّر ِبإِنَا ٍء لَ ْي َس َعلَ ْي ِه ِغطَا ٌء أَ ْو ِس َقا ٍء‬
“ ‫لَ ْي َس َعلَ ْي ِه ِوكَا ٌء إِالَّ نَ َز َل ِفي ِه ِم ْن َذلِ َك الْ َو َبا ِء‬

Jābir b. ‘Abdullāh reported Allah’s Messenger (‫)ﷺ‬

as saying:

“Cover the vessels and tie the waterskin, for there

is a night in a year when pestilence descends, and
it does not pass an uncovered vessel or an untied
waterskin but some of that pestilence descending
into it.”  (Muslim)

 And in conclusion, a Muslim
should surrender their affairs to ‫ْبتْ َنا أَنَّ َها َسأَلَ ْت َر ُس َول اللَّ ِه‬ َ َ ‫ َز ْوجِ ال َّنب ِِّي صىل الله عليه وسلم أَنَّ َها أَخ‬،‫َع ْن َعائِشَ َة‬
Allah, hoping for His Grace, and ‫ْب َها نَب ُِّي اللَّ ِه صىل الله عليه وسلم‬ َ َ ‫صىل الله عليه وسلم َع ِن الطَّا ُعونِ َفأَخ‬
seeking from His Bestowal, and
relying on Him, for all matters are ‫ َفلَ ْي َس‬،‫ َف َج َعلَ ُه اللَّ ُه َر ْح َم ًة لِلْ ُم ْؤ ِم ِن َني‬،‫“‏ أَن َُّه كَانَ َع َذا ًبا َي ْب َعث ُُه اللَّ ُه َع َل َم ْن َيشَ ا ُء‬
in His Hand and His Control. ‫ َي ْعلَ ُم أَن َُّه لَ ْن ُي ِصي َب ُه إِالَّ َما كَ َت َب‬،‫ِم ْن َع ْب ٍد َي َق ُع الطَّا ُعونُ َف َي ْمك ُُث ِف َبلَ ِد ِه َصا ِب ًرا‬
‫ إِالَّ كَانَ لَ ُه ِمث ُْل أَ ْج ِر الشَّ هِي ِد ‏”‏‏‬،‫اللَّ ُه لَ ُه‬

A person should strives to meet

‘Ā’ishah (the wife of the Prophet (‫ ))ﷺ‬narrated that she asked Allah’s
whatever occurs to them with
Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬about plague, and Allah’s Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬informed
patience and seeking reward
her saying, “Plague was a punishment which Allah used to send
from Allah, because  on whom He wished, but Allah made it a blessing for the believers.
None (among the believers) remains patient in a land in which plague
ٍ ‫الصا ِب ُرونَ أَ ْج َر ُهم ِبغ َْيِ ِح َس‬
‫اب‬ َّ ‫إِنَّ َا ُي َو َّف‬ has broken out and considers that nothing will befall him except
what Allah has ordained for him, but that Allah will grant him
“Indeed, the patient will be given a reward similar to that of a martyr.”
their reward without account.” (Bukhāri)
(al-Zumar v. 10)
