Online Learning Day 33 – Wednesday, March 18, 2020

English
For today’s English class, I would like you to please do some reading of
your choice for enjoyment. You can think of this as an Independent
Reading block. This means that you can select any type of text that you
are interested in. It may be a chapter book you have at home, some
picture books on an App, a comic book, an online article about
something you are interested in or would like to know more about, a
RAZ-Kids book, etc. The goal for today is to build your reading stamina
by reading for at least 30 minutes.

When you’re finished reading, write down some questions you have
about the text you just read.

Social Studies
On Monday, you watched a video about Emily’s journey to Quebec (a
province right next to Ontario) to pick up her cousins. Emily, who was
an early Canadian settler, used many different types of transportation
to travel to meet her cousins. She travelled by canoe, horse, wagon, log
raft, Durham boat, stage coach, river steamer, train, caleche (carriage),
sailboat and she even walked as well. Today, I would like you to think
about what you have already learned about the types of transportation
used by early Indigenous Canadians and compare them with the types
of transportation used by settlers, like Emily, in the Venn Diagram
activity I have made for you on Seesaw. If you have forgotten the types
of transportation used by early Indigenous Canadians, such as the First
Nations, go back and review your notes from earlier in this unit. Re-
watching the read-aloud of The Rough-Face Girl by Rafe Martin might
also help you to remember:

Math
Begin by checking your answers to yesterday’s practice questions
(Relating Multiplication and Division Practice Questions) using the
answer key that I have provided you with.

Today, I’d like you to complete the Unit 4: Division Review that I have
posted underneath this lesson plan on the Weebly as well as on
Seesaw. I will post the answers tomorrow for you to check your work. A
reminder that you will have an assessment on division this Friday,
March 20th, 2020. This assessment will also include one question about
multiplication, which will be similar to the multiplication question on
the review that you are completing today.
Science
Good work completing and correcting your Growth and Changes in
Plants Review, 3C students. Remember, that yes, bees do help plants by
pollinating the flowers, and that this is important because it helps the
plant to make new seeds and grow new plants. You want to make sure
that your explanations are very clear about that. You’re doing a great
job describing the process of pollination though, so well done!

Today, you will complete a Growth and Changes in Plants Assessment

on Seesaw. This assessment will be graded and recorded on your Term
2 Report Card. Students, please make sure that you complete this
assessment independently. This means you cannot ask a parent or
guardian to help you to answer the questions. Every student must
complete the work on his or her own or the assessment will not be
graded. Also, please remember that you cannot read from your notes
while making a voice recording. All answers must be given in your own
words, or they will not be graded.

Please log in to your student account on Seesaw and complete the

assessment that has been assigned to you. You will need to click on the
“Activities” tab (look for the light bulb) and then click +Add Response
for the “Growth and Changes in Plants Assessment #1” activity. This
assessment has more than one page (four pages in total), so please
make sure that you complete each one.
