10 Herbs Which Contains Antiviral (Antivirus) Activity
1. Aloe vera
Aloe vera is a stem-less plant from the Lily family.
Aloe vera has been widely used as an herbal plant since
era of Egyptian, Indians, Chinese, and other Asian
cultures. This herbal medicine has been reported to
have inhibitory effects against some kind of viruses
such as human cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus
type 2 (HSV-2), and poliovirus. Previous studies
showed that aloe vera can be used as antifungal,
antiviral, and antibacterial.
2. Ginger
Ginger is a common spice and also a widely used
medicinal plant in ancient China. Some research
demonstrates that ginger extract has antiviral effects
against influenza, RSV, and feline calicivirus (FCV).
Specific compounds in ginger, such as gingerols and
zingerone, have been found to inhibit viral replication
and prevent viruses from entering host cells.
3. Oregano
Having a strong taste and bringing warmth in food, accompanied
by a mild sweetness, oregano can be found in the fresh, dried or
as an oil form, and many research said that it has significant
health benefits. Oregano rich in antioxidants, which are
compounds that can protect us from free radicals that attacked
human body. Some test tube studies have found that oregano and
its components can also protect against some viruses. Specifically,
carvacrol and thymol are two compounds in oregano that have been linked to antiviral
properties. In one test tube study, Carvacrol inactivated norovirus, an infection by a virus
that causes diarrhea, nausea and stomach pain, within one hour of treatment.
4. Garlic
Garlic is a popular natural remedy for a wide array
of conditions, including viral infections. Garlic
compounds: diallyl thiosulfinate (allicin), allyl
methyl thiosulfinate, methyl allyl thiosulfinate,
ajoene, alliin, deoxyalliin, diallyl disulfide, and
diallyl trisulfide. In a study in 23 adults with warts
caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), applying

them after 1–2
weeks. Additionally, older test-tube studies note that garlic may have antiviral activity
against influenza A and B, HIV, HSV-1, viral pneumonia, and rhinovirus, which causes
the common cold. Test-tube studies indicate that garlic enhances immune system
response by stimulating protective immune cells, which may safeguard against viral
infections.
5. Ginseng
Ginseng is one of the most well-known herbal
medicines that have been consumed for
thousands years. Experimental evidence
suggests that ginseng modulates the host
immune system and improves outcomes of
inflammatory human diseases.Ginsenosides of
ginseng were shown to protect human
endothelial cells against influenza H9N2-
induced inflammation, hepatitis B, norovirus, and coxsackieviruses, and apoptosis.
6. Binahong Leaves
Binahong plant is one of the medicinal plants which
has great potential in the future to be investigated,
because of this plant there are still many that need
to be dug as phytopharmaca material. Binahong can
be used to help the healing process ssuch as
antioxidants, antibiotics, antibacterial, antivirus and
anti-inflammatory. The phytochemical test results
of binahong leaves were found polyphenol compounds, alkaloids, and flavonoids in
binahong leaf extract. Garmana, phytochemical screening of binahong leaves contained
flavonoid compounds, saponins, and steroids / triterpenoids.
7. Soursop Leaves
10. Rosemary
Rosemary is frequently used in cooking but
actually it has several function as antibacterial
and antiviruses. Oleanolic acid that can be found
inside of rosemary leaves has displayed antiviral
activity against herpes viruses, HIV, influenza,
and hepatitis in animal and test-tube studies.
Plus, rosemary extract has demonstrated
antiviral effects against herpes viruses and
hepatitis A, which affects the liver.
