LESSON PLAN

SCIENCE

1. OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
I.1 Recognize what is mixture.
I.2 Differentiate between homogenous mixtures from heterogenous
mixture and classify then into solution, suspension or colloid.
I.3 Familiarize the characteristics and properties of each type of mixtures.

2. SUBJECT MATTER:

2.1. Mixtures
2.2. Concepts:
 A mixture is made up of two (2) or more types of atoms that
are not chemically combined.
 There are two major types of mixtures:
HOMOGENOUS MIXTURES (means “the same”) – you
cannot see the different parts or phases of the mixture.
HETEROGENOUS MIXTURES (means “different”) – you
can see the different parts or phases of the mixture.
 SOLUTION – a homogeneous mixtures of two (2) or more
substances and is made up of 2 components: the solute (the
substance which is dissolved) and solvent (the substance
that does the dissolving).
 SUSPENSION – heterogenous mixtures in which the
particles of solute does not dissolve but remain floating
everywhere in the medium.
 COLLOID – heterogenous mixtures where fine particles are
dispersed within a continuous medium which prevent them
from settling down or being filtered.

“What is mixture?” – is a blend of two or more pure substances.
“What is solution? – a homogenous mixture of two or more
substances in a single physical state.
