3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS.
3.1 DIMENSIONS AND TOLERANCES.
The dimensions and tolerances of Pan Head, Round Washer Head, Raised Countersunk Head, Flat
Countersunk Head, Hexagon Head and Flanged Hexagon Head Spaced Thread Tapping screws
must be in accordance with Tables 1 thru 6, Figures 1 thru 5 included in Clauses 2 thru 7, and

full headed screws, and from the largest theoretical diameter of the bearing surface of the head to
the commencement of the truncation for truncated head screws.
5.3 CROSS RECESS DEPTH.

shank and shall be in accordance with the value specified in Appendix B.
6. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS - HEXAGON HEAD.

Across corners, across flats and overall height shall be as specified in Table 5.
6.2 FILLET RADIUS.
The radius of the fillet under the bearing surface of the head shall be no greater than 15% of the
basic screw diameter.
6.3 EDGE ROUNDING.
A slight rounding of all edges and corners of the hexagon head is permissible provided the
diameter of the bearing surface is not less than 90% of the minimum "across flats" dimension.

The optional indentation in head shall not impair function of part. Shape is optional with the
manufacturer.

NOTES: For EAO procurement heads must be marked CH as shown in Figure 4.

For NAAO procurement and assembly:
Heads must be marked to identify manufacturer and metric. Metric identification shall consist of

7.3 GAUGE MEASUREMENT REQUIREMENTS.

7.3.1 GAUGING OF THE HEAD OF FLANGED HEXAGON HEAD PRODUCTS. The head
shall be gauged using two ring gauges, A and B, to demonstrate the coincidental
acceptability of hexagon height, wrenching height, corner fill, width across corners and
flange thickness at the junction with the hexagon portion.

7.3.2 GAUGING OF THE HEAD OF PLAIN HEXAGON HEAD PRODUCTS. The head shall
be gauged using two plain ring gauges A and B to demonstrate the coincidental
acceptability of minimum wrenching height and corner fill. Products are to be gauged
