2. Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS)

General statement.  General Electric is committed to achieving environmental, health, and safety excellence. This is a
responsibility of management and employees in all functions. GE strives to provide a safe and healthy working environ-
ment and to avoid impact and injury to the environment and communities in which we do business.

GE is fully committed to the safety of our people, contractor and partner personnel as well as customer representatives
on site. GE has a long established safety program that consists of training, reporting and executing a safe installation.
While on site, GE is fully complying with site – specific safety requirements as specific safety training and/ or procedures
that GE team needs to comply with during the installation. GE is willing to take the necessary measures to meet these
requirements.

The GE Installation & Field Service Regional EHS Manager periodically visits the site during the course of the installation.
The observations and audits of our EHS Manager are shared with the site safety team. All GE related action items are
addressed in timely manner. Site safety team is notified and updated on the completion of any GE related safety action
item. It is requested that site safety team reciprocates on any customer, partner and/ or contractor safety issue that
may arise.

All EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) rules and recommendations, recorded in the EHS Construction Plan must be ap-
plied, especially wearing required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). No job can be started if people or equipment
safety is compromised. This a GE Global Policy requirement and nothing can lead to ignore these safety rules.

For more detailed information, refer to GEK111309 GE Product Safety Recommended Best Practices general guidelines
related to safe site work practices.

Main risks highlight.  The following generic risks may occur when conducting the work, and must be prevented:

● Mechanical hazard: all needed precautions must be taken to prevent contact with rotating parts (shaft-line, motor,
pumps, etc).
● Electrical hazard: all needed precautions must be taken to prevent contact with electrical parts under voltage. Be
conscious that on generator, residual voltage may be present even if the unit is at standstill and not excited.
● Noise hazard: all needed precautions must be taken to prevent injuries due to high level of noise. Use temporary
signalization to prevent access to hazardous areas and enforce PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) wearing such as
ear-defenders in the hazardous areas.
● Dropped objects: all needed precautions must be taken to prevent accidental dropped objects that may occur during
construction or commissioning situation such as lifting operations, hand tools/temporary equipment used at height.
● Work at height: all needed precautions must be taken to prevent risk associated with working at height when this situ-
ation cannot be eliminated. Collective protection equipment (scaffolding...) and/or PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
shall be used to prevent or arrest a fall.
● Chemical: all needed precautions must be taken according Material Safety Data sheet available from the EHS repre-
sentative at site.
● Suffocation hazard: all needed precautions must be taken to prevent asphyxiation or suffocation. Use temporary sig-
nalization to prevent access to hazardous areas.
● Projection hazard: all needed precautions must be taken to prevent injuries due to particles projections. Use temporary
signalization to prevent access to hazardous areas and enforce PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) wearing such as
safety goggles in the hazardous areas.
● Fire or explosion hazard: all needed precautions must be taken to prevent fire around facilities. Do not store flammable
materials near working zones and monitor any ignition sources (welding machine, naked flame, hot gas release point,
etc). Hot work permit procedure is mandatory.

4. Verification to be done on the groundworks and embedded

parts
1. Inspections to be done in priority:

Warning
● Anchor bolts positions.
● Grout Pockets: Slag has to be removed.
● Centerline Reference marks, reference level, embedded parts.
● Different level of grout.

2. Important checks in case of utilization of adjustable support devices (Fixators…):

● Qualitative and Quantitative inspection of materials.
● Inspection before final grouting of Fixators.
● Inspection after final grouting of Fixators.
● Record a groundwork level. Etablish the higher point of the groundwork. This point will become the reference point
for the installation of the first Fixator.
● Check that all Fixators are preseted to the height indicated in MLI 1603.
● Check that a 1 to 1.5’’ gap exist under each Fixators in order to permit grouting.
● Install base plates, then install shims (without oil nor grease).
● 1.5 to 2 days are generally necessary to obtain hardening of the grout. DO NOT put any load on the Fixators before
this period.
● When load is on the base plates and Fixators, verify that load applied on each Fixators is correct. See MLI 0323 or
D066 (for Single Shaft) for correspondence between load and torque.

Warning
● Extreme Care must be taken in Fixators load checks operation. Change load on a Fixator can result
to create a overload on the other Fixators which can break instantaneously.
● Before each Fixators adjustement, check that anchor bolt is loosed.

15. Install GT Load Coupling MLI 0411 & 1319

Prepare the load coupling and hardware for installation by cleaning any shipping preservative from the components.
Measure the coupling flange and hardware prior to installation. Using temporary bolts and dry ice, make up the load
coupling to the GT rotor after aligning match marks as described in the 0411 instructions. Once the coupling faces are
complete, replace the temporary bolts with the permanent hardware following the instructions in MLI 1309. Refer to MLI
1309 & 1319 drawings for details of the load coupling and hardware. Push the GT rotor assembly downstream towards
the exhaust against the active thrush bearing.

In accordance with bolting assembly Instructions.

See MLI 1309.

Prior to assembly ensure load coupling male and associated female rabbit dimension. Drawing MLI 1319.

Specification MLI 0411.

Record coupling rabbet fit on installation report sheet “Coupling Rabbet Fit”.

Record coupling bolt elongation data on installation report sheet . “Coupling Bolt Stretch Data”.

Figure 1.15. GT Load Coupling

Warning
● Load coupling has to be installed before installation of GT & GEN on pedestal because if load coupling is
installed after, it will be difficult to insert it between GT & GEN (not sufficient space).
● For good practice, it’s required to install load coupling before MLI 1612 upper half cone (it is easier to
install Load coupling without upper half cone).
● Shipping brace needs to be removed from Turbine and Generator and Generator set to cold position for
load coupling installation.
