Determining the Environmental Factors that causes Dengue Infection in Barangay Looc

A. Background Information

Different diseases are currently spreading in the Philippines. Most of them are

commonly induced by contaminated and polluted environment due to our unsanitary

activities. One of the most common disease is Dengue Virus. Based on DOH Dengue

Surveillance Report on August, 2019, Region VI had the most number of cases followed by

Region IV-A and Region X. Meanwhile, seven out of seventeen regions have exceeded the

epidemic threshold of Dengue in their regions for the past consecutive weeks

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that rapidly spread in all regions of the

world in recent years. Dengue virus is transmitted by female mosquitoes. These mosquitoes

could also trigger chickungunya, yellow fever, and ZIKA virus. Dengue is widespread

throughout the tropics with varying factors such as rainfall, relative humidity, temperature,

and unplanned rapid urbanization (WHO, 2019).

Dengue infection in rural and urban areas are commonly caused by poor sanitation

and can be fatal if not treated immediately. The researchers will conduct a study in

determining the environmental factors that causes Dengue Virus and spread awareness on

how to prevent having Dengue Virus in the vicinity of Brgy. Looc in Calamba City by

promoting necessary sanitation.

B. Objectives of the study

Determine the environmental factors that causes dengue infection in barangay looc.

Spread awareness about the Environmental Factors that causes Dengue Infection and how to avoid it.
Promote a clean and safe environment where mosquito0d other disease carriers cannot radiate.

C. Significance of the Study

This study will be beneficial to the community of Looc because it will help on spreading information and a

safe environment and reduce the cases of Dengue fever.

Thus, this study is significant to the following:

Individuals. This will provide information in addressing the dengue-causing environmental factors that an

individual may encounter.

Families. It may serve as a guide in preventing the disease on each family member.l

Community. This study will help the community as well as its officials and reduce the casualties/ cases of

Dengue infection caused by the environment they live inside the community

D.Related Literature

According to some studies, climate directly affects the spreading of dengue infection which makes it one of

the factors that can be

Based on the study of Pfeiffer (2020) Dengue has been spreading and growing in the tropics and

subtropics. They have concluded the results using pre-summer monthly total rainfall and mean temperature

to predict annual dengue incidence, over the period 2002-2018 in three pre-defined areas of Hong Kong.

The study found that the rainfall before and during the East Asian monsoon (pre-summer) rainy season is

negatively complementing with the annual incidence in Hong Kong while the temperature is positively

correlated. In summarization, as mosquito control measures in Hong Kong are intensified mainly when

heavy rainfalls occur during or close to summer, our study suggests that a lower-than-average intensity of

pre-summer rainfall should also be taken into account as an indicator of increased dengue risk.
