space on the paper between each section should be 1 blank line no more – this is 2.0 spacing.

DELETE! Overall what is your group about; the reader should be able to know the entire gist of
your group by reading this summary (like an abstract for an article). What type of group will this
be (psychoeducational and counseling or just counseling); describe the counseling focus
specifically with justification; which population will this group serve and how will it serve them.

Rationale and Purpose of the Group

DELETE! This includes a clear justification/validation for your group. Why is your group
important to the target population and/or surrounding community? Your rationale description
must be able to cover any questions that might be raised about the need for the group (Why is
your group needed?).

Goals/Objectives for Group

DELETE! These must be specific, measurable, and reasonably attainable within the time span of
the group duration. You need to be clear about what you most want the members to obtain from
being in the group and how you/they go about achieving this? Also discuss how the members can
apply what they are learning from the group to their everyday lives – to enhance their lives. What
are these skills; list them, discuss them. A bullet list format can be utilized.

Rights and Expectations of Group Members

DELETE! Discuss the rights and expectations of the group members. Also discuss the ethical
considerations that will be considered; what ethical code will be utilized (what parts specifically)
in creating and maintaining the functioning of the group.

Group Leader Information

DELETE! Name(s) of the group leader(s), degrees, professional and personal backgrounds and
experiences, qualifications for leading groups, and other pertinent information. Describe the
leadership or facilitation style and characteristics that will be required of the group leader to be a
good fit for the group.

Basic Ground Rules

in order to remain in the group? These rules serve to protect the rights of all participants. A bullet
list format can be utilized.

Pre-Group Screening and Selection

GROUP PROPOSAL & ANNOUNCMENT 3

DELETE! Who can be a member of this group? Who cannot be a member of this group? Define
the requirements to have membership in the group. How will you pre-screen potential members
to determine if they are an appropriate fit for the group?

Practical Considerations/Preparation

DELETE! Are there any preparations that must be completed before the group can begin? What
will be the meeting times, frequency of meetings, duration of meetings, and overall duration of
the group?

DELETE! You must include a sample informed consent document for GROUPS NOT for
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING that each member would agree to and sign before being allowed
in the group. Include a copy of this in Appendix item A, in this document after the references –
scroll down.

Procedures/Techniques/Group Theory

DELETE! How will this group function in steps? What will be the standard agenda for each
group meeting? What are the specific procedures that will be utilized to meet the objectives? Are
the procedures realistic and appropriate for the group population? What theory of group
counseling will be used and what is the rationale for choosing this theory? What are the
characteristics that caused you to choose this theory? List at least 2 resources in APA FORMAT
that support the use of this theory here below your narrative response. What type of source did
you use: webpage/web article, journal article, book, etc? Go to Purdue Owl APA and look up
your source type on the Reference links (left side), learn how to list the type of source you have
in APA format here. Don’t guess, if you don’t know or understand how to list your source in
APA format ask your instructor for help BEFORE you submit your paper.

Group Topics

DELETE! What are the specific topic/content areas that the group will explore as related to the
overall rationale for the group? A bullet list format can be utilized. Like this:

 Meeting 1 – the topic will be ________________. Specifically in this topic the

following ideas or skills will be introduced, explored, practiced and each member will be
encouraged to apply __________________ in their daily lives (how)
____________________ until the next group meeting. At the next group meeting the
first short topic of discussion is to “check-in” to see if anyone will report on the success
of the skill application.
 Meeting 2 – same deal.

DELETE! Remember that the last group meeting topic will be to terminate the group. This
meeting could also include a review of all the topics covered, the skills that have been applied,
insights from each member of their overall gains, and how they will continue their growth work
beyond the group. Termination also needs to be mentioned; lightly discussed leading up to the
last session, so that termination is expected.

Evaluation Method & Follow-up

DELETE! How will you evaluate the success of this group? How will you know if the group
members met their objectives? How will you follow-up with group members after the group has
ended to evaluate their progress? Address and describe this in your response. Do group
participants have the opportunity to evaluate the leader and their effectiveness? Are the
evaluation methods objective, practical, and relevant?

DELETE! You must include a sample evaluation form that members will fill out at the end of the
group. The evaluation should include the following elements at minimum: opportunity to
evaluate their experience in the group (was it helpful to them) and the performance of the group
leader. Include a copy of this with your paper in Appendix item B.
