Here's another idea I've been thinking about. Remember, I've been wrong on everything so far on trying to figure out how to stop
reflux so take it with a grain of salt. Anyway, most of us as we got reflux, first gave up dairy, then a bunch of other food groups, then went on
PPI's etc. The cause of our reflux is a muscle that leads to the stomach weakens (at least the medical profession knows that much). What if
when we eliminate these foods (containing Calcium, protein etc.) were taking away what our muscles need? Then we take PPI's and our body
can't absorb Calcium. Yes, the acid is reduced but the muscle weakens further, so we up the dose of PPI, acid reduced, even less Calcium
absorbed and over and over again. If you've read my post I'm back off PPI's again (yes it burns) and am starting to drink milk again (with nutrient
shake). I'm only drinking one a day but will up it to two and then three (as long as stomach doesn't go crazy). Will see what happens.
I know, I'm probably on another wild goose chase but I can't accept that I will "just have to live with it".
how much does a endoscope cost.
Hi everyone
Firstly, this is my first post and I'm so glad I came across this forum as I never knew such a thing existed.
Anyway. I'm posting here as Ive had severe heartburn for the past 10 months now. If I'm honest I didn't even know what it was at first, having
never suffered from it before. First trip to my GP and he gave me Omeprazole which didn't work, followed by Nexium, which also had no affect.
Then he put me onto Ranitidine, which he admitted probably wouldn't do much, and he was right. I stopped taking it in the end as I think it was
making my symptoms worse. I am now basically living on Remegal, which does relieve the symptoms, albeit temporarily.
Ive recently had an endoscopy which came back clear, but I am waiting for the biopsy results. My GP had suggested my symptoms were caused
by an ulcer and I was convinced the endoscopy would show this. I'm so fed up of feeling like this every day and I'm not sure I can carry on like
this anymore
My symptoms are:
Heartburn, which seems to be worse when hungry. Eating often relieves this but it then returns around an hour after eating. If I am unable to eat
quickly enough, I often feel as though I'm going to pass out. (I have learnt now to carry small, easy to eat pieces of food with me everywhere I go
to try and avoid such a situation).Constant burning sensation in the back of my throatHiccups, frequent bouts during the dayFrequent
belchingNausea, particularly after waking and after eatingFeeling hungry all the time, and never feeling full after eatingTiredness - despite having
a good sleeping routineThis is a weird one - palpitations, regularly feel like my heart is skipping a beat, accompanied by a sharp shortness of
breath
I've kept a food diary in the past to see if anything in particular is making my symptoms worse, but I have been unable to establish any link.
Apples and vinegar seem to give me a short burst of temporary release though.
Is there anything else I can try to ease my symptoms?
I know lots of people are going through this, but are there many success stories? I cannot imagine living like this for the rest of my life
I don't think the biopsy samples which were taken will show anything either so I'm really not sure where to go from here.
By the way, just wanted to add - not overweight, do not drink, never smoked. Am also in the UK, and 26 years of age
can you feel the burn in your ribs
I had been following Rosebloom's thread about getting off PPI's and also have been researching other places as well. I've been
on Aciphex for 8 or 9 years with no problems. I want to wean myself off them.
It's been 8 years since I've seen a GI doc so today I had an appt. with a new one. I wanted to get his opinion on coming off these drugs and acid
rebound, etc. Well, first of all, his PA was very unprofessional, in my book. Every time I challenged him with a question he held his head like he
was getting frustrated and sometimes did not know how to answer me. The doctor came in and he talked with me a little but I wanted him to
know how I felt, where I was coming from and that I did quite a bit of research. My first and last EGD was in 2002 so he wants me to get one with
a PH Bravo. I have been putting this off and I know deep down I should have one. Had a barium swallow this past January and it showed
severe reflux.
Anyway, I questioned him about the PH Bravo saying, if I'm only off the PPI for a week, how accurate can this test be? He claims that acid
rebound only lasts a week! I said I've heard 3 months or more. He really didn't have an answer for that one. He seemed like an OK guy but only
when the patient sits silently and accepts everything he says.
I just did not come away from there feeling good. I guess I wanted him to acknowledge what I've been reading about. I just felt hopeless leaving
there. So now I have to get up the nerve to get the EGD and hopefully the results are OK. Then I believe I'll go see a Naturopathic Doctor and
see what they say.
Is it really possible to come off these drugs? Or are we hooked forever?!
Hi Everyone,
Today I had one of the rather painful experience. Doc prescribed (OTC) Priilosec. I have be on it for 3-4 weeks. It was prescribed because of a
lump in throat that wasn't a sinus infection and I never really had any reflux symptoms.
Anyway, having been on it, today I ate some raw onions and about two hours later, burn burn burn. NOW I finally know what heartburn feels like.
I also know that I did not have that feel before nor did I have the painful feeling inside my stomach, it felt like it was on fire.
I ate raw onions before fine. These were sweet onions. I barely ate two tablespoons chopped with other food. Shortly before the burning began I
ate some jordan almonds (I've eaten them in these past 3-4 weeks w/o problems). So I wasn't sure if it was the almonds or the onions.
Either way, this is so painful. After a few hours, I fell asleep. I woke up and I still feel the burn. My throat lump feels really bad. My throat is dry no
matter how much water I have. How do I get rid of this feeling? The lump feels even worse than before I started this med!
I normally take the Prilosec at exactly the same time. Today I was off by a few hours and I still haven't taken today and don't know if I want to
anymore.
Hi all, I am 51 yr old female with acid reflux. Have been on PPI's for years. Kept having to switch every few years as they quit
working. Well, am now having such severe symptoms I don't know what to do. Past week throat esophagus just everything from my ears down to
my chest/stomach and thru my back is hurting and burning. Went to gastro doc who put me on 300 mg zantac. Nothing! Upped it to 600 mg
zantac. Nothing! We are trying to get me to Aug. when my medicare kicks in as now I have no insurance but I don't know how I'm gonna make it.
Will lose some weight, not that that will hurt me but I'm not really overweight. I think I have a hiatal hernia and now maybe ulcerated esophagus. I
am a pretty stressed person as it is and this is making it worse. Vicious circle. Even eating small pieces of bread will make me cough a little.
Drinking things I swallow multiple times. I'm just miserable. Never felt this sick. If any 1 has any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, just
today, doc added prilosec to vthe mixture. Seems like an awful lot of meds but I love and trust my doc and am really sick. Thanks, Steph
Hello my name is constantine 1 year ago I've been diagnosed with GERD and I had esophagitis at stage 2 or something like this.
My doctor prescribed me with PPI drugs lansprazol. I took the pill dose of 30mg twice a day one morning second before sleep for half year. then
when my esophagitis became better doc told me move on 1 pill of 30mg only at morning.
I dont expirience any side effects by now its almost 1 year.
So a month ago I read about its all long term side effects and that the PPI drugs are not completely studied for long time use. and I was scared
and shocked!!
So I wanted to drop em off like stupied im 18 by the way.
So I started not taking the pill everyday and I felt bloating lot of acid and dirhea and lot lot of uncomfortable feeling at stomak.
I was so scared I started taking them again 30mg a day.
Then I only heard about the rebound effect from my doc...
I tried taking the same drug but only 15mg a day 2 weaks ago and i could feel the difference of 30mg and 15mg because of little bloating and
little more acid.
Now im stuck with this 1pill at morning and I feel bad because I cant stop them and I feel this disease is not for me im too young for this damn...
Whenever I dont eat for long period of time I feel some acid come up to my throat,And when I eat big meal I feel good and no acid reflux and very
comfortable and relaxed.
I dont have acid reflux at night.
I scare of long term side effects and want to stop drugs but dont know how!! help!!
I also remembered that I had ear inflmation 1 year ago and I took AntioBiotics for it and than after the antiobiotics period its 2weaks I
started having acid reflux!!! Could it be the cause of it??? because I totaly remember now I started having acid reflux after this strong antibiotics
for 2 weaks!!!
If it is the cause of it what can I do its already 1year on PPI??
HELPPPP IM ALMOST CRYYY THIS EATS ME INSIDE MY HEAD!!!
This is the second week I have been off a ppi and I have pain like I have never experienced before!! I had taken the ppi for just
over 5 weeks and wish I had never started taking it!
Two months ago I was having stomach pains and was placed on 20 mg Prilosec (over the counter), which was later increased to 40 mg/day.
After many tests, the cause of my stomach pain is still unexplained and my dosage was decreased back to 20 mg. Right after I started the ppi, I
started experiencing horrible symptoms of insomnia, anxiety, more nausea and vomiting, and even some burning in the esophagus. I had never
experienced this burning sensation before, and I have never had acid reflux or heartburn.
I didn’t know anything about ppi’s when I started Prilosec, but after some research and learning about acid rebound and potential long
term problems such as hip fractures, I wanted off the ppi. My doctor stopped Prilosec and replaced it with ranitidine (Zantac generic) 150mg
2xDay.
The first week off the ppi was not bad. I felt better and was able to eat more solid foods and do more light activities. However, at the start of
week 2, the nausea and vomiting came back with a vengeance!! I am also experiencing more intense and unbearable burning in the esophagus
and throat. It's lasting longer and longer. Before two nights ago, the burning only occurred during the day, but now, the last two nights after
going to bed have been miserable. It is now mid-day and the burning has not subsided from last night. I’ve tried the apple cider vineger and
antacids, but they have not worked. I can’t stand or walk without bad stomach pain, and can’t hold food down.
Am I experiencing acid rebound after only 5 weeks on a ppi? Am I also having acid reflux? Anybody else have a similar experience after only
being on a ppi short term? Any success stories? My pain and symptoms are immensely worse than before taking the ppi. I read some of
Rosebloom’s thread and am impressed she has stuck with her acid rebound so long.
In March I was having huge pains in my right side, anywhere from my back under my ribs to the front down to near the
bellybutton. Went to ER and they did a CT Scan as they thought it might be my appendix, which it wasn't the CT Scan was all clear. A few days
later, the pain went away. Saw my Dr. he told me to stop taking nexium for my reflux. A month and a half goes by with no symptoms of
anything, and now the pain is back, and i have acid taste in the back of my throat while I sleep. Has anyone ever heard of this pain, that may be
a gallbladder attack from what I hear, have anything to do with reflux?
I have just heard all kinds of aweful stories about pains in the right side and people have horrible things happen to them. I am glad my scan
turned out clean on all fronts, but still a nagging, worrying pain that just doesnt seem to be going away right now.
