Learning Competency: Finds the Common Factors and the Greatest Common Factor
(GCF) of two numbers using the following methods: Listing, Prime Factorization, and
Continuous Division.
I. Objectives
1. Distinguish the difference between Common Factors and Greatest
Common Factors (GCF)
2. Identifies the different method in finding Common Factors and Greatest
Common Factors
3. Displays generosity by sharing things to others.
4. Find the Common Factors and the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of two
numbers by using Listing, Prime Factorization, and Continuous Division
method.
III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s activity
A. Routinary Activities
1. Opening prayer
Class, please stand up and let The pupils will stand up and pray
us pray (call a pupil to lead the
prayer)
B. Preparatory Activities
1. Review
Do you still remember our Our lesson yesterday is about Prime and
lesson yesterday? What is it? Composite numbers
Very good!
Very good!
And what are factors? Factors are numbers that we will multiply
to get a product
Very good, always remember
that the number of factors
determines whether a number
is prime or composite
D. Lesson Proper
Present a problem in the Class
(show a strip of cartolina, Have the
pupils read the problem)
Then ask:
What kind of fruit does Mary and Claire has 18 apples
Claire will be sharing to their
friends? To their friends
Method 1: Listing
We can get the answer by listing
the factors of 12 and 18.
Again, when we say factors, these
are the numbers multiplied to get a
product.
How about
Method 3: Continuous Division
We can also find the common
factors and the GCF using
Continuous Division
Steps
a) Write the numbers horizontally.
Common Factors: 12 = 2 x 3
18 = 2 x 3
E. Generalization
What are Common Factors?
What is Greatest Common Factor
or GCF of two numbers
F. Application
I will group you into 3 groups.
Each group will be given a manila
paper and write your solution in
finding the Common factor and the
greatest common factor.
IV. Evaluation
Use the listing method in finding the Common Factors and Greatest Common
Factor
1) 18=
27=
Common Factors___________

V. Assignment
Find the GCF of each pair of numbers. Use listing method, prime
factorization, and continuous division. Write your answers in your notebook.
1. 15 and 20
2. 16 and 20
3. 9 and 21
4. 17 and 51
