Design calculations for Solar Panels safe anchorage against 100 mph wind

• Solar Panel Details:

Size: 1 m x 2 m
Weight: 50 lbs (22.5 kg)
Fixing Detail: Each panel is secured by 4 numbers 10 mm  expansion bolts, mechanically anchored
into the reinforced concrete roof slab.

• Anchorage Design Calculations:

Design Codes:
Building Code of Pakistan SP-2007
Uniform Building Code UBC 1997

Basic Wind Speed = 100 mph (160 kph)

Height above ground = 100 ft (Assumed for rooftop installation on a 10 storied building)

Design wind pressure:

P = Ce x Cq x qs x Iw (UBC Chapter 16, Division III)

Where:
Ce = Height, Exposure and Gust Factor (Table 16-G)
Cq = Pressure Coefficient (Table 16-H)
qs = Wind Stagnation Pressure (Table 16-F)
Iw = Importance Factor (Table 16-K)

Ce = 1.13 (From Table 16-G, with Height above Ground 100 ft & Exposure Type B)
Cq = 1.4 (From Table 16-H, for minor structures and wind any direction)
qs = 25.6 psf (Table 16-F with 100 mph basic wind speed)
Iw = 1.0 (Table 16-K for miscellaneous structures)

P = 1.13 x 1.4 x 25.6 x 1.0 = 40.5 psf

Wind force per panel:

Panel Area = 1.0 x 2.0 = 2.0 m2 (21.5 ft2)

Force per panel = Ppanel = 40.5 x 21.5 = 871 lbs (uplift)

Force per 10 mm  anchor = Ppanel /4 = 871 / 4 = 218 lbs (Tension force)

Typical Anchor selected for design calcs is FISCHER FAZ II 10 C (Literature enclosed) and this anchor
or any equivalent anchor can be used for installation.

From Table below (considering cracked concrete)

Permissible Tensile Load of anchor = 4.3 kN = 966 lbs > 218 lbs

Result:
Anchor tensile capacity is much more than the acting tensile force, hence the anchorage is SAFE.
