Hello!

Have you ever wondered why some animals became a symbol in the army, what could be their
significance, why they were noticed? Let me clarify to you and also tell you why I chose this project
theme, namely: Animals in the Army and Their Symbolism. The animals have each shown through their
abilities that they are a help to humans. The connection that has developed between humans and
animals is a very old one. Both dogs and cats, as well as other animals, can play a vital role in our lives,
even if we often do not. It is known that they are animals attached to their masters, which shows
enormous suffering at the loss of their master, that they are animals that "feel" different emotional
states or even some that "feel" that their master is in some pain. Over time, certain animals have
remained in the history of the American army due to their heroism and devotion to them more than a
man could. And next I will say a few words about dogs, dolphins and elephants that played an important
role in the army.

Sergeant Stubby of the 102nd Infantry, Yankee Division went from mascot to hero during WWI after
being smuggled into battle by Private J. Robert Conway. Stubby went on to detect enemy gas, bark out
warnings when rival troops were near and locate the wounded on the battlefield. By the start of WWII,
the military had recognized the value canine soldiers could bring and began using them primarily for
recon. Stubby forged the way for all canine soldiers who followed and remains a symbol of military
bravery and heroism to this day.

One such pair was Marine Lance Corporal Joshua Ashley and “Sirius”. They were the number one team
during training at Yuma military base, but tragically Josh was killed by an IED just two months after
deploying to Afghanistan. “Sirius” at first refused to take commands from his new handler and showed
significant signs of agitation at the loss of his partner. AND MUCH MORE

Since the 1960s, the United States Navy has spent a great deal of time training funds for various war
animals. Dolphins were most often trained for this purpose, having the ability to detect underwater
mines, and then alert the closest patrol. In Seattle, dolphins and sea lions seem to make a great team
when it comes to detecting and capturing human intruders. When they notice a swimmer , the dolphin
swims to the nearest Navy ship, while the sea lion manages to capture the intruder.

Elephants, with their massive stature and fearsome tusks have been employed in warfare since ancient
times. Elephantry units were first incorporated in militaries in India, but over time, famous generals
including Pyrrhus of Epirus, Hannibal, and Alexander the Great all used elephants to literally crush their
opponents. War elephants were usually deployed in the center of the line, where the imposing beasts
would charge at up to 20 mph toward the enemy. They were also used to carry heavy materials across
difficult terrain before tanks and helicopters were an option.

In conclusion, the presentation of the above animals resulted in the fact that they played an important
role in the army with the military in the mission in which in certain situations they could reach where
people do not, moreover, an even emotional relationship developed between them. Collaboration with
animals led to good results in the army, which later became a symbol for the military and a real life
lesson.
