standard limit.
The standard value for pH is between 6.5 and 8.5 for both Class B and Class C. It could
be seen from the figure above that all stations were within the standards; and in decreasing range
from 2013 to 2015. The spatial distribution displayed though Thematic Maps were shown in
Appendix E.1
There was an increase in the temperature values as seen in the figure. This increase was
minimal and conforms within the standard set by the DENR since there has not been a recorded
increase of more than 30C. The thematic maps for temperature were shown in Appendix E.1.
Dissolved oxygen (DO) is the amount of oxygen that is dissolved in water and is essential
to healthy streams and lakes. Higher dissolved oxygen level usually indicates better water
quality.
The standard set by the DENR-EMB is a minimum of 5 mg/L for both class B and C. In
the above figure, it showed that it conformed to the set standards. However, it should be noted
that there was a decrease in its concentration which could be an implication of the degradation of
the river. The Thematic Maps for DO in 2013, 2014 and 2015 were shown in Appendix E.3
The standard set by the DENR of the Total Suspended Solids for class B is a maximum
increase of 30% from the past year. From the figure, there was a gradual decrease in the
concentration of Total Suspended Solids from the year 2013 to 2014, thus were within the
standards. However, there was an increase of the concentration in 2015 at Stations 12, 13, 14 and
15 and did not coincide with the standards. For the Class C, the set standard states that the
maximum allowable increase in the Total Suspended Solids concentration is 30 mg/L. All the
stations assigned as class C were within the standard. The Thematic Maps was shown in
Appendix E.4
Table 4.2 E. Annual Average BOD Reading
Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) determines the quantity of oxygen used by aquatic life in
the aerobic oxidation. The lower the BOD the better the quality of water since, there will
be more Dissolve Oxygen for the organisms in the river. The standard concentration for
Biochemical Oxygen Demand set for Class B waters is a Minimum of 5 mg/L. It could be
seen from the figure that stations 10, 11 and 13 for the year 2015 did not conform to the
standard. For waters Classified as C, the standard limit was a maximum concentration of
10 mg/L, from the figure, it could be seen that the stations under this classification met
the standards from 2013 to 2015. The Thematic Maps for BOD concentration (2013,
5000MPN/100mL, it could be seen from the figure that all stations exceeded the standard value
of the parameters since 2013. In fact, it is 10 folds as much the allowable limit. Although, there
is a significant decrease in the concentration through the three years, it is still far beyond the
indicated standards. The spatial distribution Thematic Maps was displayed at Appendix E.6.
The standard limit for class B is less than 200 MPN/100mL while at present there is no
given standard for Class C waters on this parameter. From the figure it could be depicted that the
standard was not met for all Class B stations in 2013, 2014 and 2015. It was also shown there
was generally an increase in the concentration in the year 2015. The fecal coliform
concentrations of the 15 stations through Thematic Maps were displayed in Appendix E.7.
