Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has recentlycalled on the
Government to look into the possibility of extending the Cork-
Midleton rail line to Youghal.
“The Midleton rail link has been a huge success since it was
opened last year. Commuters use the train for daily travel to work
in Cork, but many people also use it to travel to Midleton from
Cork city all week. I imagine if the line were extended to Youghal,
the town would benefit in exactly the same way.
“The closure of the railway line in Youghal in the 1970s did a huge
disservice to the town’s tourism potential. Youghal town is a pop-
ular tourist spot given its historical sights and great beach. A rail
Eileen & Breeda with all their Club Members link from Cork city and east Cork would surely enhance tourism
as the town would be more easily accessible.
Youghal Taekwon-Do “A regular railway service should also benefit Youghal industry
which has suffered by factory closures in recent years. Given its
distance from Cork airport and harbour, improving the towns
transport connections is essential if industry is to be attracted and
retained in the town. It would also enhance the potential to devel-
op local indigenous industry.
“I am calling on the Government to examine the extension of the
rail line to Youghal. A railway link in the town would be a great
boost to the local community, industry and tourism.

SECAD support
Ryan Howard of SECAD said his organisation was delighted to
support Foroige through the years. No less important than funding
and administrative support, he said, was the "need to believe" in
order to develop the skills and commitment to achieve dreams. He
urged all concerned to "keep the process going" and SECAD
would continue to support projects to the best of its ability.
Café volunteer
A mother of five Catherine Curley described the challenge and sat-
isfaction of being a volunteer worker in the Hot Spot youth café.
She recognised it as "a safe place for young people to hang out"
but also a wonderful place for her, where genuine friendships were
easily forged. She had got to understand young people better and
had gained confidence through her participation.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION & CONFIRMATION DAYS
The Sacrament of the Eucharist -
First Holy Communion
The word ‘communion’ means to be united with. Catholics
believe that in holy communion they are united in a special way
with Jesus Christ, that they are sharing in the body and blood of
Christ the Saviour. Holy Communion, and the whole service

The Sacrament of the Eucharist (First Holy Communion) is a
Roman Catholic ceremony. It is the colloquial name for a person's
first celebration of the sacrament of the Eucharist. The celebration

Christian community. At the ceremony, each child receives
Communion, normally in the form of a small round piece of bread
placed by the Priest in the palms of their hands.

Most Catholic children receive their First Communion when
they’re seven or eight years of age because this is considered the
age of reason. This means that most children are usually in second
class in school when they make their First Communion.
In order for to receive communion the recipient should be without
sin and in a state of grace. Traditionally, therefore young Catholic
children will make their first confession, i.e. the Sacrament of Tel: 024 92568
