F. Brief explanation about terminologies used in the areas to be covered in the study:
McKinsey 7s model: McKinsey 7s model is a tool that analyzes firm’s organizational design by
looking at 7 key internal elements: strategy, structure, systems, shared values, style, staff and
skills, in order to identify if they are effectively aligned and allow organization to achieve its
objectives.
The model can be applied to many situations and is a valuable tool when organizational design is
at question. The most common uses of the framework are:
To facilitate organizational change.
To help implement new strategy.
To identify how each area may change in a future.
To facilitate the merger of organizations.
2. SWOT Analysis: SWOT is an acronym for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
and is a structured planning method that evaluates those four elements of a project or business
venture. A SWOT analysis can be carried out for a company, product, place, industry, or person. It
involves specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the
internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieve that objective.
Strengths: characteristics of the business or project that give it an advantage over others
Weaknesses: characteristics that place the business or project at a disadvantage relative to
others
Opportunities: elements in the environment that the business or project could exploit to its
advantage
Threats: elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the business or project
3.PESTEL Analysis : (Political, Economic, Social and Technological, Environmental and Legal)
describes a framework of macro-environmental factors used in the environmental scanning
component of strategic management. It is part of an external analysis when conducting a strategic
analysis or doing market research, and gives an overview of the different macro-
environmental factors to be taken into consideration. It is a strategic tool for understanding
market growth or decline, business position, potential and direction for operations.
4. Porter's Five Forces Analysis is a framework that attempts to analyze the level of competition
within an industry and business strategy development. It draws upon industrial Organization
(IO) economics to derive five forces that determine the competitive intensity and therefore
attractiveness of an Industry. Attractiveness in this context refers to the overall industry
profitability.
An "unattractive" industry is one in which the combination of these five forces acts to drive down
overall profitability. A very unattractive industry would be one approaching "pure competition", in
which available profits for all firms are driven to normal profit. This analysis is associated with its
principal innovator Michael E. Porter of Harvard University.
Porter's Five Forces include – three forces from 'horizontal' competition: the threat of substitute
products or services, the threat of established rivals, and the threat of new entrants; and two forces
from 'vertical' competition: the bargaining power of suppliers and the bargaining power of
customers.
