A comparison of the stranger (1942) to the stranger (1967)

The book The Stranger by Albert Camus is undoubtedly a classic that is widely known. It's
slightly less known that a movie about it was made in 1967. This is strange because the movie
has some of the most famous actors of that time period. I watched the movie and have read the
book so now I will examine how faithful the movie is to the book.
Meursault is played by Marcello Mastroianni in the 1967 movie and this is both a good
choice and a bad one. It is a bad choice because marcello is charming and attractive while
Meursault is supposed to be dull. It makes sense though because everyone seems to like
him despite his personality so he must have other characteristics that make him enjoyable to
be around. This is why the casting choice is both good and bad.
All that aside the movie itself manages to keep the Stranger's disconnected feel with it's
jarring cuts and intense music playing at times that most would consider normal and calm
music during action packed scenes. The movie isn't only loyal to the book tonaly but also
keeps almost all the scenes even ones that I think should have been cut.
