FORCE AND ACCELERATION

Question 1

A 50-kg block A is connected to a 20 kg block B as shown in Figure Q1. The coefficient of kinetic
friction between block A and the incline plane is μk = 0.25. If block A slides down the plane and the
system is released from rest, determine the:

i) acceleration of each block, and

ii) tension in the cable.

Question 2

Two blocks, mA = 60 kg and mB = 30 kg are connected by the cable system shown in Figure Q2. If the
system is released from rest, determine the acceleration of both blocks; aA and aB and tension in the cable
when block A is moving down the slope.

Question 3

The crate, which has a mass of 10 kg block is placed on a surface with friction coefficient of 0.2 and inclined
plane of 30o shown as in Figure Q3. The crate is subjected to a force, P of 450 N. By using the theory of
Force and Acceleration, determine the velocity of the crate, after the crate moves up the inclined surface with
s = 0.25 m, starting from rest.

Question 1

The spring is placed between the wall and the 10 kg block as shown in figure Q1. If the block is subjected
to a force of F = 500 N, determine its velocity when s = 0.5 m. When s = 0, the block is at rest and the
spring is uncompressed. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the plane surface, µk is
0.25.

Question 3

Figure Q3 shows that, a 30-kg collar is pulled by applied force, F from its initial position at B until it reaches
point A along the smooth horizontal rod. Each spring have an unstretched length of 0.3 m and spring stiffness
of 250 N/m. If the collar slides along smooth horizontal with initial velocity of 2 m/s, and stops when s = 3 m,
determine the value of applied force, F required.
