IV. Brief Description of the Training

The paradigm shift in the educational system of the country creates the need for public
and private secondary Social Studies teachers to update their repertoire of teaching strategies
in the subject. With the implementation of the K+12 curriculum, teachers should update
themselves on new strategies and analytical tools and techniques for them to have a
competitive edge in teaching their subject area. Thus, it is the responsibility of Social Studies
teachers to seek opportunities to grow professionally through trainings.
This three-day seminar-workshop, which is an extension activity of this Campus’ BSEd
Social Studies program, focuses on the development of Social Studies teachers’ methods and
strategies and instructional materials for the effective delivery of the subject matter. Current
national and international issues will also be dissected on the third day of the training.

V. Objectives

The proposed seminar-workshop generally aims to develop the knowledge, skills, and
abilities of public and private secondary school teachers in teaching strategies and
instructional materials to be used in their discussion of the lessons in the Social Sciences. It
also includes in-depth examination of current national and international issues that affect the
country and the world.
Specifically, at the end of the three-day activity, the participants should be able to:

1. develop vast knowledge on innovative methods and strategies and instructional

materials that can be used in teaching the Social Sciences;
2. facilitate sharing of information, knowledge, and technologies in Social Studies
teaching;
3. demonstrate working knowledge on the application of the teaching methods and
strategies and instructional materials;
4. present teaching methods and strategies and produce instructional materials which are
effective in delivering the lessons; and
5. update themselves on current national and international issues which can be integrated
in related subject matter.
