healthy friendships

Procedure: Describe how you will:
Introduce: Welcome girls back & go in a round discussing one thing that
happened last week.
Review group rules & confidentiality
Group discussion question: what does it mean to be a “good
friend”?
Communicate Learning types of healthy and unhealthy relationships.
Lesson Objective: Learning about boundaries and how to set boundaries in
healthy ways.
Teach Content: What do healthy & unhealthy friendships look like?
What are boundaries? How do we create boundaries to protect
ourselves?
Split in pairs: pairs will brainstorm characteristics of healthy &
unhealthy relationships and write answers on board & present.
Group discussion: what differences do you notice? What are
ways we can protect ourselves from being hurt in unhealthy
friendships?
Practice Content: Once board activity is finished, students will write a letter to
someone who they have a healthy relationship with. Students
will express what makes the relationship healthy and use ways
to set boundaries in the letter. Can be given to the person or
kept for their own keeping.
Summarize: What are ways you notice the people in your life being a
healthy friend? What are ways you can be a healthy friend for
someone.
Close: Introduce topic of self concept and self respect form next week
by tying it in with boundary setting.
