Prior to This lesson is meant to help Resources Big drum for the teacher Lesson: the class or teacher get to to Bring: Manipulative know each other Time: Content/Description Notes/Assessments: Introduction: MY NAME IS Get everyone to sit in a circle Start by introducing yourself and why you are there 2 mins Explain that even though they most likely know each other’s names, I don’t know their names so today is meant to help me learn their names Body: I Can Keep the Beat Explain the game: Students will sit in a circle. As a group we will chant “I can keep the beat, and I can say your name, sitting next to ____ is ____, then name repeated by class” Students will start with my name, and go around the circle chanting on beat. As they chant, they will tap their legs twice and clap once. 25 mins Start the activity at a slow tempo, ensuring the students remain at that tempo If the activity goes well and we get through the class, repeat it again but at a faster tempo IF TIME: Play Hickety, Tickety, Bumblebee. Explain to students: Students will sit in a circle. Sing the song to the students: Hickety, Tickety Can you sing your name to me? My name is ____” The first person to go will walk around the circle with a manipulative as the class sings.
