 to interpret the Chinese proverbs, maxims, and epigrams intelligently
 to recognize proverbs, maxims, and epigrams by creating personal advice to the lost,

1. Students tell the name of the person in the photo.

1. If you were to choose between these two - man of strength or man of memory, who
should you be? Why?
In Chinese Literature, the ideal hero is not the man of great strength, but the man who has an
excellent memory, not the warrior or the soldier, but the scholar.

II. INTERACTION

1. Understanding Author’s Profile


Confucius is the Latin for the Chines Kung-Fu-Tze. Kung (family name), fu (given name)
and Tze (means Master)

Confucius was born in the province of Lu (now Shantung). His father, an elderly military
commander, died when he was 3 years old but the boy was precocious. At an early age, he
mastered the learning of his day. The death of his mother drove him to despair. He secluded
himself for more than 2 years. It was during his seclusion that he formulated much of his
philosophy. He became the founder of Chinese literature.

III. INTEGRATION
1. Students watch an inspiring video about a group of boys who showed patience and
determination to play the game they love to play even in the absence of a good soccer
field.
2. Students write the virtues expressed in the video.

When does a man become a man of virtue?

A man becomes a man of virtue when he shows humility and respect to others. When a man
respects everyone, everything goes well. He serves as the role model to all ages.

ASSIGNMENT:
Read the excerpt: The Fundamental Virtues of Confucianism. Construct a diagram that
directly summarizes and explain the virtues discussed in the next. Write it in a one whole sheet
of paper.
