Wave

Wave is a propagation of energy fom one

place to other places without the material its
passes.
Electromagnetic Waves

The electromagnetic waves is creep without

the intermediator.
For example : sunlight , TV signals ,e.t.c.
Propagation speed from electromagnetic wave
is 3 x 108 m/s.
Characteristic Electromagnetic
Waves

1. Changes in electric and magnetic fields

occur at the same time, so that the two fields
have a maximum and minimum prices at the
same time and at the same place.
2. Direction of electric field and magnetic fields
perpendicular to each other and both
perpendicular to the direction of propagation.

3. Of characteristic No. 2 obtained that

electromagnetic waves are transverse waves.
4. Like the waves in general, an incident
electromagnetic wave reflection, refraction,
interference, and diffraction. Also experienced
events including the polarization due to
transverse waves.
5. Rapid propagation of electromagnetic waves
depends only on the properties of electric and
magnetic medium which he passes.

MICROWAVES
What is microwaves ?
Microwaves (microwave) are electromagnetic waves with a super high
frequency (Super High Frequency, SHF),

how about the characteristic of microwaves ?

3 GHz (3x109 Hz) .
INFRARED
What is Infrared?
Infrared is electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength longer than visible light,
but shorter than radio waves radiation.

and the characteristic ?

can’t be seen
can penetrate glass (clear material)
derived from the heat-producing components
wavelength is inversely proportional to the temperature
Electromagnetic Spectrum
Electromagnetic Spectrum is the range of all possible electromagnetic
radiation. Electromagnetic Spectrum can be explain in wavelenght, frequency,
or energy photon.
Wavelengt?
The mean of wavelength is the distance
between two peaks.
Frequency?
Frequency is the number of waves passing
through a point in one unit of time
wavelenght and frequency micro
Microwave with a wavelength between 1 millimeter to 1 meter. Or has
frequency between 300 MHz (0.3 GHz) up to 300GHz (about 3x109 Hz).
Wavelenght and Frequency Infrared
Infrared have areas with range 1011 to 1014 for
frequency and have wavelength with range 10-5
The different Frequency and
Wavelengt
Because the speed of electromagnetic energy
is a constant (speed of light), wavelength and
frequency is inversely proportional. The longer
a wave, the lower the frequency.
Mechanism of Microwaves
Microwaves station works with the help of the antenna , receiver ,
and other equipment needed for data transmission communication
with microwaves. Microwave signals is moving in one direction
straight line.
Mechanism of Infrared waves
Infrared detector on each object emitted by infrared will
reflect or absorb infrared, so that the detector catch the
different wavelengths corresponding the temperature
produced by objects .
Because, the main source of infrared radiation is thermal
radiation or heat.
Discovered the microwave
Percy Lebaron Spencer
was an American
engineer and inventor of
the world's first
microwave oven.
Spencer was born in
Howland, Maine on July
19, 1894 and died on
September 8, 1970.
Inventors infrared waves
Sir Frederick William Herschel
(born in Hannover, 15 November
1738 - died in Slough, August
25, 1822 at the age of 83 years)
Excellence (Microwave)

● Relatively rapid propagation , ( because of

the short wave )
● Cost efficiency , the cost is usually low
enough
● Easy to apply and install
Weakness
● Easily distracted by other radio wave.
● In the transmission process between the transmitter and
receiver are required to be in line of sight with no
obstructions.
Infrared excess in data transmission
• Delivery infrared data can be done at any time , for
delivery to the infrared does not require signal .
• Delivery infrared data can easily be said for including
simple tools .
• Delivery of data from mobile phones will not cost you
anything ( free )
Weakness in the infrared data transmission
• In the infrared data transmission , infrared second hole
should face each other .
• Infrared very harmful to the eyes , so do not even infrared
beam on the eye.
• Delivery of data via infrared is slower than Bluetooth .
Application Microwaves in Daily Life
1. Radar and Navigation
2. Microwave oven
3. Wifi
4. Tower of Telecommunication operators
5. Cancer teraphy
Application of Infrared in Daily Life

1. Kamera tembus pandang

2. TV’s Remote
3. Transfer files
4. Infrared lamp
