PREFLIGHT INSPECTION
1. AFTO Form 781 – CHECK STARTING ENGINE
2. Required Documents – CHECK (AROW) 1. Mixture – RICH (IN)
3. Control Lock – REMOVE 2. Master Switch – ON
4. Ignition Switch / Avionics Master Switch – OFF 3. Rotating Beacon – ON
5. Primer – LOCKED 4. Auxiliary Fuel Pump Switch – HIGH
6. Fuel Shutoff Knob – IN 5. Throttle – SET for 8-10 gal/hr fuel flow, then retard for start
7. Circuit Breakers – IN 6. Auxiliary Fuel Pump Switch – RELEASE
8. Trim – SET at TAKEOFF 7. Propeller Area – “CLEAR”

2. Propeller & Spinner – CHECK CONDITION 9. Suction Gauge – CHECK 4.5 TO 5.4 in. Hg
3. Air Filter – CHECK FREE & CLEAR 10. Throttle – IDLE – CHECK (650 RPM)
4. Oil Quantity – CHECK (7 qts min, 8 for X-Country) 11. Transponder – ALT
5. Oil Cap – SECURE 12. Lights & Strobes – AS REQUIRED
LEFT WING NORMAL TAKEOFF
1. Fuel Quantity – CK VISUALLY, FUEL CAP SECURE 1. Flaps – UP
2. Pitot Tube / Cover – CHECK / REMOVE 2. Throttle – FULL OPEN, 2400 RPM
3. Fuel Vent – CHECK 3. Elevator Control – LIFT NOSE WHEEL 55 MPH
4. Stall Warning Vent – CHECK 4. Climb Speed – 80 – 85 MPH
5. Wing Tie-Down – REMOVE
6. Nav Light – UNBROKEN (RED) SHORT FIELD TAKEOFF
7. Aileron – CHECK FREEDOM, SECURE 1. Flaps – 100 2. Brakes – Apply
8. Flap Tracks & Actuator Rod – CHECK 3. Power – FULL THROTTLE, 2400 RPM 4. Release Brakes
9. Fuel Tank Sump – DRAIN, CHECK CLARITY/COLOR 5. Rotate at 55 – Climb at 70 MPH until obstacles are cleared
10. Main Wheel – CHECK TIRE / STRUT / BRAKE ASSY 6. Flaps – RETRACT slowly after reaching 85 MPH
11. Chock – REMOVE

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE


1. Circuit Breakers – CHECK IN LEVEL OFF
2. Passenger Brief – SEATS, BELTS, DOORS, EXIT RTE 1. Fuel Quantity – CHECK
3. Seats, Belts, Harnesses – ADJUST & LOCK 2. Engine Instruments – CHECK
4. Brakes – TEST & HOLD 3. Cruise – Use Cruise Perf Charts to Set RPM
5. Avionics Power Switch / Radios – OFF 4. Mixture – LEAN FOR BEST POWER

DESCENT EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
1. Fuel Quantity – CHECK ENGINE FIRE DURING START (results from over priming)
2. Mixture – ENRICHEN AS REQ’D 1. Starter – CONTINUE TO CRANK ENGINE
3. Flight Instruments – RESET DG AS REQ’D 2. Power – 1700 RPM (if engine starts)
4. Get Weather, Altimeter – RESET 3. If engine start is unsuccessful, continue cranking for several

5. After Touchdown - lower the nose and APPLY MAX BRAKING 10. Mixture – Adjust to maintain smooth engine operation
6. Flaps – RETRACT for maximum braking effectiveness 11. If restart is unsuccessful, refer to Landing Without Engine Power

AFTER LANDING
1. Radios – SET / RESET * When calling on 121.5 say your last known position, number of people
