able to explain things using facts, statistics and examples.
Persuasive essay
This essay sometimes, it is called convince me. In writing this essay, the writer tries all
possible best to convince the reader to accept his point of view by using logical reasoning as
well as examples, expert opinions. The writer must be able to communicate clearly.

Answering Essay Questions Made Easier

Instructors or teachers frequently remark that a major reason that students don’t receive
higher grades on essay exams is because they do not follow directions even when these
directions are included in the question. These instructors add that many students don’t seem
to know how to recognize words in questions that give directions on how to construct an
essay answer and what to include.
A list of important words in essay questions has been given below to help students answer
essay questions with the kinds of responses that instructors seek. These words are called KEY
WORDS!
One suggestion many students have found helpful is to mark all the KEY WORDS
in all test directions and question before beginning to answer. This makes it
easier to organize an answer, know what to say, and know when enough has
been written. If there is ever doubt about the clarity of a test question, ask the
professor for clarification before beginning your answer.

KEY WORDS
Explain, step by step or point by point
ANALYZE while writing. Pay attention to who,
what, where, when, why, and how in
the answer. Include strengths,
weaknesses, pros and cons, research
for and against.
COMPARE Stress similarities and differences
between objects, concepts, or ideas.
(For example: “Compare Operant and
Classical Conditioning)
CONTRAST Emphasize the dissimilarities,
differences, or unique and
distinguishing characteristics in the
response.
DEFINE Clearly state the meaning, list
qualities, traits, or characteristics.
DESCRIBE Include traits, characteristics, or
retell a story including those facts
that summarize the essential
features.
DISCUSS Present significant characteristics,
pros and cons, pertinent research,
and the significance of each.
Develop the arguments for and
against or analyze the advantages,
disadvantages, or problems.
EVALUATE Emphasize positive and negative
aspects. Include opinions and
support these with some kind of
proof, information, or examples.
Normally, instructors don’t like
unsupported opinions from college
students.
EXAMPLES Use brief stories, analogies,
relevant events, or similar instance
to support general statements and
main ideas.
EXPLAIN Give reasons or justifications for
something, or present causes,
rationalizations, or how or why
something occurred.
INTERPRET Cover existing understandings of a
topic. Paraphrase, translate,
condense, simplify, and/or diagnose
as you write.
JUSTIFY Present rationale, reasons for
conclusions, recommendations, or
results. Use proof, research,
examples, or quotes to support
justifications.
LIST Record topics in numerical,
developmental, or chronological
order. Many times

NUMERACY PAPER
This paper consist of objectives and written test. The objectives will last for 30 minutes and
the writing test will also last for 45 minutes. This paper is basically to test candidates on the
calculations in mathematics in the basic schools. Note: study with Akio-La pamphlet will help
all candidates if they so desire to pass.
SAMPLE/TRIAL QUESTIONS.
Numeracy paper.
1. A woman sells rice at 5 cups for Ghc 2.00 and makes a profit of 8GP per cup. What is
her profit percent?

Solution
Selling price = Ghc 2.00;
Profit = selling price ×cost price
= 5×8=0 Ghc 0.40
Cost price = selling price – profit
= Ghc 2.00 – Ghc 0.40 = Ghc 1.60
= profit percent = profit
Cost price × 100
= 0.4 / 1.60 ×100 =25%
2. The table below gives the production of timber in five districts of Ghana in a certain
year.

District Production

Agona 2400

i. Illustrate the data on a pie chart

ii. What percentage of the total production of timber is from Nkawkaw?

Solution
Total production = 600 + 900 + 1800 + 1500 + 2400 = 7200
Angle of a circle = 360
To get the angles for each of them, work below

Solution
The angle representing radio cassette players is 72 and this is equivalent to Ghc 90.00.
The total value of goods in the shop is = to 360 that is the total circle.
If 72 = Ghc 90.00, then 360 = 360/72 × 90 = Ghc 450.00.
iii. The angle of sector that represent television sets = 360 – (20 + 72 + 120 +8) =
140.

In all, the solution is
2x + 6 – 72 =2x = - 66
= x = -33.

Q. a primary 2 child added a fraction 2/5 + 5/5 and get 7/10.

I what is wrong with child?
Ii Describe how you will correct the child using concrete materials?

You must be aware that this question is a methodological question

therefore needs knowledge in methodology to solve it.
Solution.
i. The child lacks basic knowledge in like fraction calculation.
ii. The concrete material that can be used to correct the child is paper folding.
Description;
Give the child a full paper.
Ask the child to fold the paper into five (5) parts. The five parts represent a whole fraction.
Ask the child to shade two of the folded paper.
Direct the child to fold another paper into five times.
Ask the child to shade all the folded parts.
Now, ask the child to count all the shaded parts of the two fractions. The will realized that if
the shade parts are put together, it will be 7.
Note: let the child know that the two papers that is folded in five, represent a whole and
therefore should not be added but only add the numerators that is the shaded parts
Q. A length of 7/8 cm is divided into eight equal parts.
I. What is the length of each part?
Ii. How much does 1 division differ from 1/8?
