In the solid state method, the main components are powdered and mixed. When the product of
this mixture is heated to an elevated temperature and a controlled pressure a diffusion reaction
occurs. The powder reagents are mixed in an agate mortar together with a small amount of
acetone so that the components can be homogenized (Cuartero, 2012).
Solid state synthesis offers a relationship between the structure and property of the materials.
Controlling some synthesis factors can alter the structure and modify the physical properties of
the materials. This can be summarized as a triangle with the structure, synthesis and properties at
the vertices. The combination of these parameters can carry out an endless number of compounds
with different properties. A good example of this is the wide variety of oxides of the perovskite
structure with varied properties reported in the literature.
The fact that bismuth oxide is volatile at temperatures above 817 ° C, and can form relatively
stable ternary phases, makes the synthesis by the solid state method of the pure bismuth ferrite
phase challenging[ CITATION Fer13 \l 2058 ]

orbitales d [3].
In BFO the electron polarization is caused by the free electron pair of Bi3 + that occupies
site A of the perovskite crystal structure
producto.
Multiferroic materials have attracted a lot of attention due to their potential applications in
memory devices, spintronic devices, magnetically modulated transducers, ultrafast optoelectronic
devices and sensors etc.
. BiFeO3 (BFO) is the most studied one because it exhibits ferroelectric order as well as G-type
antiferromagnetic orderings above room temperature (Tc = 810-830 oC and TN = 350-370 oC) [5].
Its crystal structure is described by rhombohederally distorted perovskite structure with R3c space
group. The ferroelectricity in this compound arises due to the off-centre structural distortions of
cations induced by the 6S2 lone pair electrons of Bi3+ whereas the G-type antiferromagnetic
ordering arises due to indirect exchange interaction between Fe3+ ions through O2- ions
In fact, compounds with perovskite structure may have more than one applicable property (e.g.,
ferroelectricity, (weak, ferri) magnetism, piezoelectricity, and magnetoelectric coupling) to be
classified as multifunctional. Furthermore, materials with perovskite structure that present
ferroelectricity, ferroelasticity and/or some magnetic order simultaneously, are known as
multiferroics; for multiferroic compounds, such properties can be intrinsically coupled, as the case
of magnetoelectric materials. In these materials, an electric field can induce an electric
polarization and a magnetic order simultaneously, or a magnetic field can induce a magnetization
and an electric order simultaneously [3,4]. These materials can also be used in advanced electro-
electronic devices, such as multiple-state non-volatile memory [5,6] and high-power solid-state
transformer, by fundamentally exploiting the magnetoelectric coupling [7]. In recent years, some
multiferroic materials have emerged as potential candidates for these specific applications, e.g.,
perovskite-structured polycrystalline BiFeO3 (BF) and BF-based compounds.
Doping with alkaline earth cations, in our particular case Ca2 +, generates changes in its crystalline
structure and is able to stabilize the rhomboedral structure of BiFeO3 (avoid the formation of
secondary phases), how many effects improve its dielectric properties

The properties of ceramic materials depend on the chemical composition, the crystalline
structure, the microstructure, as well as the processing. Therefore, the doping of a
compound can have a significant influence on the characteristics of the material. Doping
consists of introducing chemical elements in low concentrations into the structure of a
material. This is done in order to make structural modifications, or to change or improve
the properties of said material. Compounds with perovskite structure have the ability to
accommodate ions of different sizes, which makes it possible to have a large number of
compositions with various dopants in said structure. The effects of doping on the
properties of the material depend on: the doping elements, the concentration of the doping
chemical element and the site it occupies in the crystalline network. It is important to
mention that the neutrality of the load must always be met when introducing doping
elements.

The XRD patterns of all the prepared samples were analyzed. In XRD pattern of BiFeO 3 and doped BiFeO3
peaks were observed at 2θ = 22.460, 31.800, 32.110, 39.5190, 45.800, 51.360 and 56.41o having miller indices
as (012), (104), (110), (202), (024), (116), (214) respectively. (Fig. 1). The miller indices (h k l) of the ensuing
planes of BiFeO3 and doped BiFeO3 were matched with the standard pattern of BiFeO 3 and are indexed in
Figure 1 (JCPDS data 1998, File no. 86-1518). The matched (h k l) values suggest that BiFeO 3 has
rhombohedral perovskite structure having space group R3c at room temperature.
calcium doping did not cause a change in structure as no new peaks corresponding to any phase associated
with Ca were observed.
These observations indicate the incorporation of Ca ions into the BFO structure. Weak secondary phase
peaks like Bi2Fe4O9 were observed along with main peaks. These phases are usually observed in BFO and
substituted BFO samples because of the kinetics of formation . The peaks of Bi 2Fe4O9 (secondary phase of
bismuth ferrite) at 2θ = 27.78 appeared in the doped samples of Bi 1-xCax FeO3 (x=0, 0.04, 0.08, 0.12). The
order of increase in peak intensities in these secondary phases follows the order of increase of Ca doping
concentration in BiFeO3.
XRD images of all samples of Bi1-xSrx FeO3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) (asterisks * indicate peaks of Bi2Fe4O9)
Between 1400-1650 cm-1 two peaks are observed which are related to the symmetry
bending vibration of C-H or C-H2[ CITATION Yan14 \l 2058 ]
The broad band at 3300-3700 cm-1 is due to the symmetric and anti-symmetric
stretching of H2O and OH- bond.
Absorption bands in the range of 424 cm−1 to 544 cm−1 are assigned with Bi-O vibrations.
it has been shown that high conductivity of bismuth ferrite is due to movement of oxygen
vacancies. Replacement of bismuth by barium, calcium or strontium increases the
activation energy of the oxygen vacancies movement, but the activation energy does not
follow any particular law over the average ionic radius of the A-site.
In the low-frecuency región, it is seen that the dielectric constant decreases as the
frecuency increases for all the prepared samples, which may be ascribed to the space-
charge relaxation effect. The dielectric loss, as shown in the inset of fig. , is found to
decrease rapidly with increasing frecuency. Thus the dipole contribution towards the
polarization is the main cause of the decrease in dielectric loss at higher frecuencies. The
co-doping of in and mn sudues oxygen ion vanacies and thus improves the dielectric loss,
especially in bifmo nps.
In the low-frecuency región, it is seen that the dielectric constant decreases as the
frecuency increases for all the prepared samples, which may be ascribed to the space-
charge relaxation effect. The dielectric loss, as shown in the inset of Fig.4 , is found to
decrease rapidly with increasing frecuency. Thus the dipole contribution towards the
polarization is the main cause of the decrease in dielectric loss at higher frecuencies.
At lower frequencies the higher dielectric constant may be due to the presence of electronic, ionic,
dipolar and space charge polarizations whereas the lower value of dielectric constant at high
frequency is due to electronic polarization. This is because larger size and mass of dipoles can
respond only to low frequencies but at high frequencies they are unable to be in step with the
frequency of the applied electric field and relaxed down .
The small variations in lattice parameters and the unit cell volumes are indicate the distortions or
strain in the crystal structure.
