Deprivation of Rights of Transgender in Pakistan
Pakistan, being an Islamic state, should provide equal rights to everyone but still transgender are
neglected by our government and the local society.

Literature Review
Who am I? Do I have any identity? Many people around the world have asked me these
questions. Why have I not been recognized by many countries of the world? Why can’t I get any
position in the government? Why can’t I live my life on my own terms? All these questions are
the question marks on the proud democracies around the world and Pakistan is no exception. A
case of transgender got eye of many people when he got shot by some unknown militants and the
issue arose whether to take the body to the male or female ward of the hospital while he was
struggling and fighting for life, and he died due to late treatment.
As per the census carried out in 2017, the transgender count is 10418 which makes the 0.24% of
the whole population. They don’t have sources of income without dancing, singing etc. they
are bound to live outside of common societies, and to make their own colonies. In case of any
physical attacks they don’t have social respect and personal life safety. If they face criminal
victimizations or sexual harassment these persons or individuals acquire no help or support of
society or government or non-government organization.
In Pakistani Culture, the transgender play an important role in the celebrations of marriage
ceremonies and big events. They dance and entertain people attending the ceremony and get
paid. Still they are called by different names like Murat, Hijra, Khawaja Sara and Khusra. These
are the people who are entertain the lowest degree of honor and right in Pakistan. Due to the
prevailing aggressive attitude, and uneducated mindset in the community, people are reluctant to
accept them as human beings and equal citizens. A recent survey showed that about 2% of the
people of Pakistan are probable to born as the transgender [ CITATION Mah19 \l 1033 ]. Transgender
are firstly recognized by their families. As it is thought of a matter of shame, parents themselves
try to kill the infant or throw them somewhere. No one can know ever know what is your sex,
then why this intolerance, discrimination in the society in every step of life.
All the above studies mentioned that there is direful need to solve the troubles of third
gender of unemployment, low income, health, medication, houses, jobs, respect, social gathering
rights, gender equality, fundamental rights and life safety, in the Society especially in an
underdeveloped country such as like Pakistan.

Hypothesis
In Pakistan, the transgender are ignored in every walk of life including, education, government
jobs, health care and even security for their life.
