Eucharist as Source of Enlightenment”

Leader: Please all kneel.
Leader:
PANGINOON NG AMING BUHAY

Leader : In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Assembly : Amen.
Leader : We who were in darkness of sin are called to be children of light. May Christ our
light shine on us and be always with you.1
(A moment of silent adoration)
Leader: We claim to be Christians, people of faith
who live in the light of Christ. But do we always know who we really are
and where are we going?Real faith is not a set of truths
or a string of practices and duties. Faith is a light, or rather a face
which lights up our face with the warmth of love.
That radiant face is Christ. He opens our eyes to recognize him
walking by our side on the road of life.
It may be a face lit up with joy of a friend,
someone who loves, one who gives new hope in life.
It may be the face of the crucified Christ
in the child in the slums, a refugee,
the man who is exploited and humiliated.

Let us pray in this Eucharistic adoration

that we, blind persons by the side of the road,
may have our eyes opened by Christ our light.

Silent Prayer Jesus Your Light” is played.

Leader: O God and Father,
we are often blind groping in the dark. Let your Son pass by the road
and open our eyes to see in his light who you are and who we are
and where we are going, and to recognize his face,
hidden as it may often be, in the people around us.
He is the light of the world our Lord and Savoir for ever.
ASSEMBLY: Amen.
Leader: Please stand for the Gospel reading.

POINTS FOR REFLECTION
[cf. 365 Days with the Lord 2020, Fourth Sunday of Lent, 22 March 2020.]
[…] all the readings [during Lent] are specifically chosen to be a “catechesis” (faith
instruction) for those who will be baptized during the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday; we all
renew our baptismal promises during that liturgy. Thus, what is the Gospel (Jn 9:1-41) of the
“man born blind” teaching us about our faith and the person of Jesus?
John the Evangelist uses the word semeia to describe Jesus’ miracles. These special
deeds are “signs” pointing us to Jesus himself. The healing of the blind man is a sign of
Jesus’ power; it is also a sign of Jesus’ compassion for the needy. One may validly say that
Jesus’ power is manifested precisely through his deeds of mercy. Likewise, our acts of
compassion reveal God’s love flowing out to others through our lives of service and
generosity.
Some of the Jews refuse to believe that the blind man is truly healed by Jesus.
However, the man himself confesses his faith, “I do believe, Lord.” Jesus will add, “I came
into this world…so that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might
become blind.”
Am I blind? When? Where? Lord, heal my blindness.

MEDITATION HYMN: HE
Part II
Leader: Please kneel and let us honor Jesus, our Way.
Leader: Eucharist as a celebration in memorial of the Paschal Mystery of Christ, through
which Christ has brought salvation to humanity, is a source of “enlightenment.” In
the Eucharist we “see” Christ present in the Word that “enlightens” us; we “see”
Christ present in the Eucharist that “nourishes”. Therefore, Christ present in the
Eucharist is our Light who enlightens our way, our Light who gives the warmth of his
love, like “food” that nourishes, giving us strength in our everyday journey of
following him. We claim to be people who live in the light of Christ. But do we really
know who we are and where we are going? True faith means to actively participate
in the mission of Jesus to do good to the people of today.2
When we participate in the celebration of the Eucharist, do we “see” Christ present in
the Word that “enlightens” us? Do we “see” Christ present in the Eucharist that
“nourishes” us, giving us warmth and strength on our way of journeying back to the
Father?

PENITENTIAL ACT
PENITENTIAL PRAYER3
Leader: Lord, we are quick to pinpoint the faults of others, but we are blind to our
own sins and failings: Lord, have mercy.
ASSEMBLY: Lord, have mercy.
Leader: Christ, we are slow to appreciate the goodness of others because our
prejudice and envy prevent us from seeing the reality with pure eyes: Christ,
have mercy.
ASSEMBLY: Christ, have mercy.
Leader: Lord, we are hesitant to come to the aid of others because our scrupulous
outlook hinders us from giving from the abundance of our hearts: Lord, have
mercy.
ASSEMBLY: Lord, have mercy.
Leader: May almighty God have mercy on us, banish the darkness of sin in us, and lead
us to the light and joy of everlasting life.

PART III : GENERAL INTERCESSIONS

Leader: Let us make our prayers ascend toward God and ask for the light of personal and
committed faith, so that through our good works his name may be glorified.
And so we pray:4

Lord, let your light shine on us.

1. For the Church, the people of God, that they may be light of Christ to the world and
proclaim his message of truth and love in the language of our time, let us pray to the
Lord:

2. For all those blinded by doubt or despair, that they may see again the light of faith
through the personal faith of dedicated Christians and the witnessing of the Christian
community, let us pray to the Lord:
3. For all who claim to follow Christ, that their eyes may be wide open to the injustices
in which they share, and that they may help to restore the hopes the people in God’s
values of truth, dignity and justice, let us pray to the Lord:
4. For victims of oppression and discrimination, for refugees and those struck by
disasters, that we may not be blind to their needs but help them carry their burdens,
let us pray to the Lord:
5. For our beloved dead, that the Lord may take them into his everlasting light and joy,
let us pray to the Lord:

Leader: Additional prayers may be added as all our needs and the needs of our family, of
the Church, and of the whole humanity.
Leader: Lord Jesus,
May your light continue to guide us
through these Lenten weeks geared towards Easter.
May it lead us towards the full splendor of your resurrection.
You live and reign forever and ever.
ASSEMBLY: Amen.
