Task 2

a. What do you understand about teacher development?

Teacher development can be taken as a process of becoming “the best kind of teacher and it
starts from the very beginning and continues until the retirement professionally and until the
deathbed personally. Generally, we as teachers, learn a lot from our own experience of
teaching and being acquainted with new ideas and development through personal reading,
formal training, conference, networking sharing, following the guidelines from course book,
experimenting the new curriculum, taking a new role, changing the course books,
collaboration in teaching like team teaching, joint work, peer observation, supervision and
so on. This paper mainly talks about teacher development, its nature and about classroom
observation as a strategy of teacher development.

b. Why is teacher development important to the language teachers?

Good teachers help create great students. In fact, research shows that an inspiring
and informed teacher is the most important school-related factor influencing
student achievement, so it is critical to pay close attention to how we train and
support both new and experienced educators.

The best teacher-preparation programs emphasize subject-matter mastery and

provide many opportunities for student teachers to spend time in real classrooms
under the supervision of an experienced mentor. Just as professionals in medicine,
architecture, and law have opportunities to learn through examining case studies,
learning best practices, and participating in internships, exemplary teacher -
preparation programs allow teacher candidates the time to apply their learning of
theory in the context of teaching in a real classroom.

c. Why is it necessary to study, practice and do some research in education when being a
teacher?

When educators discover new teaching strategies through professional development, they are
able to go back to the classroom and make changes to their lecture styles and curricula to
better suit the needs of their students. However, these changes are hard to evaluate because
they are typically implemented gradually. Professional development for teachers makes them
more efficient in their presentations and course evaluations by exposing educators to new
delivery methods, evaluation styles and record-keeping strategies.

d. What qualifications does a teacher should have?

Students expect teachers to be subject matter experts for the topics they teach. This means
teachers should be able to answer any question a student throws their way. Professional
development programs can enable teachers to expand their knowledge base in different
subject areas. The more professional development a teacher undergoes, the more knowledge
and industry insight he or she gains.

e. ¿Do you understand which will be your teaching activity? Would you like to teach English
or another language in schools or colleges or other institutions? Would you like to teach
English in Bilingual school or public school?

English is the language I want to teach, this has been the language I have been getting
prepared and my hopes are to teach it in high school.
