Philosophy of Technology

It is no secret that technology is all around us, especially in this day and age. Growing up,
technology was just starting to take off with the production of newer and more “high-
tech” computers and phones that continue to advance every day. Even from when I was
in school to now, the technology in classroom is different and is being used more than
ever. Now, I am a huge advocate for technology in the classroom and genuinely believe
that it can enhance any students learning, but it is how it is implemented that is important
which is why I believe that technology should be used in the classroom, for both teachers
and students.
For teachers, it allows them to create an online curriculum for students to not only learn
content but learn about internet safety. Teaching student’s internet safety at a young age
will help them in life as they continue to grow with technology and use it in a safe
manner. Technology also helps teachers stay connected with parents by contacted them
through emails, class websites, apps, and phone calls. I believe technology can help
students at any age, whether they have a disability or not. I will use technology to show
my students educational videos, play stimulating learning games, and to prepare them for
life. Students can also use technology to research nearly anything. It is also excellent that
technology is evolving to be able to do all of those things on a multitude of devices; such
as a computer, laptop, iPad, phones, and more. Google would be a main tool in my
classroom, so students would be able to use google drive to collaborate on assignments,
email each other, and use all of the other amazing features google has to offer! I can use
google and a variety of different platforms to assess students and receive data in order to
help it guide my instruction. I would hope whatever district I end up in would have an
online progress book, it keeps everything in a centralized place to make organization easy
for parents as well as students to view progress. Technology is also something that can
either be easily accessible to some districts, and others cannot even afford to get
technology. The districts who can easily access it are in the clear, most likely all
classrooms will have something for the students to use as a device. If I happened to end
up in a school that was unfortunately unable to receive technology, I would do my best to
collaborate with other teachers, faculty, and the district leaders to do something, like
apply for a grant or seek federal funds, to supply students with technology for educational
purposes.
Technology is an ever-changing thing, with new devices coming out all the time. It would
be essential for not only myself but the other teachers to stay up to date on all the new
technology. A good way to make sure this happens, is to provide workshops or
professional development for teachers when the school might be getting new technology.
Workshops could also be beneficial for older students who may be working on research
papers, so they can learn how to research, cite properly, and learn the different types of
formatting.
Technology is becoming a huge part of the world, and school districts are becoming
increasingly more open to using it in the classrooms. Whether people support it or not,
there is no stopping it, so it is incredibly important to be aware of all the dangers and red
flags technology can have, but also the wonderful tool it can be in the classroom to
support student’s learning!
