SUMMARY
Air pollution is the contamination of air,or the making
of air uncomfortable for
both man and animals. It can also be defined as the
introduction of chemicals,
particulate matter or biological materials that cause
harm or discomfort to humans
or other living things.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Pollution:This is the adverse effect on the natural
environment,
,including harmful substances that do not occur
naturally.
Air:This is the invisible, odourless, testless mixture of
gases that forms the
atmosphere surrounding the earth.
Particular matter:These are tiny particles of solids or
liquids suspended in gas or
liquids.
Diseases:These are ailments or pain.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT
Alot of thanks to Mr Yambayamba our Jets Patron for
the guidance and support
rendard during the compilation of this project.I also
thank my good friend who
has helped me in so many ways with my project. But
above all i say thank you to
the almighty God who has made everything possible.

OBJECTIVES
To develop a greater awareness of the variety and
amount of particulate matter
in air.To locate general sources of pollution for the
area and to develop
suggestions for improving air quality.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
I think this project can help people because dust can
also be a health nuisance.
The smallest particles (2.5 microns or less in
diameter) can travel to the deepest parts
of the lungs causing nose and throat
irritation,resperatory illness such as bronchitis,
lung damage and asthma and even premature death
in sensitive individuals.Generations
of fugitive dust can also reduce visibility for
example,enough to cause moving vehicles
or work site equipment accidents that can result in
serious injury or death.Almost
every year half a million people die prematurely in
our country due to air pollution.
So i think this project can help people know the effect
of air pollution and develop
suggestions for improving air quality.

MATERIALS
•MICROSCOPE SLIDES
•PETROLUM JELLY
•MASKING TAPE
•MAGNIFYING GLASS OR MICROSCOPE

METHODOLOGY
•Get three microscope slides and coat one side of
each slide with petroleum jelly.
•Select several different places within your city or
residential area to place the
slides e.g. classroom, window ledge or outside
classroom.
•Label the location on masking tape that you attach to
each slide.
•Then expose all slides the same length of time(6
hours).
•After collecting the slides, place them on a sheet of
white paper with coated side up.
•Examine under strong light with magnifying glass or
microscope.

RESULTS
The slide which had the most particles was the one I
placed outside of the school
classroom and the one with the fewest particles is the
placed inside of the school
classroom. The one I placed on the window ledge also
had particles of dust,but not
as much as the one I placed outside.
CONCLUSION
Air pollution is very dangerous. It can affect our health
in many ways and may even
cause premature death. So this challenge should be
met by all of us in order to
assure that a healthy environment will exist for
ourselves and other people.
