COMMUNITY OF DISNEY PARKS FANS

DEMOGRAPHICS
▸ Age: 18-29 largest group of theme park
attendees (Roen)

▸ Disney appeals to visitors of all ages

▸ Appx 60% of visitors are childless

(Cheatam)

▸ Race: 80% White, 10% Black, 10% other

races (Cheatam)

▸ Most Represented Income:

$35,000-50,000

▸ My Fit in Demographics

▸ White, Childless and 17

▸ Not, $35,000-50,000

Disney seems to defy most marketing rules by targeting their market to all ages and races and are quite successful at doing it. For theme parks in general, the average
age of attendance is 18 to 29 but for Disney it is much broader. Surprisingly, Disney is quite expensive but appeals mostly to households with a fairly average or for some
areas low income. I fit the demographics in that I am white and childless but neither I, nor my family fit into the income demographics. I am a student so by nature I
don’t have a large income and my family, being from Silicon Valley earns a higher income than the average that visits Disney.

CULTURAL COMPONENTS
▸ Values - Favor family time

▸ Symbols - Mickey Ears

▸ Norms - Appreciate the history of Walt Disney

▸ Language - Sharing Park Tips

It might seem like a silly past time to some people but from what I have observed, many of the people who really enjoy going to the Disney parks every year enjoy family
time and appreciate the time they have away from everyday life together. Amongst this group, everybody recognizes the Mickey Mouse ears symbol. Some people wear
their ears at the park and when away from the park many see the symbol as a reminder of good times. Another thing I find I have in common with many of the people in
the community is that many of us appreciate learning about the history of Walt Disney and the company he created. It’s a nice community to be a part of because we
share the language of the parks in that we can give each other tips on how to shorten wait times, best places to watch a parade and hot to grab fast passes.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

▸ Definition “When people work as individuals or in groups

to solve public problems.“ (ASU)

▸ My Involvement

▸ Understand the History

▸ Share Park Tips

▸ Visit Parks Regularly

The Arizona State University class, National Service and American Democracy, defines Civic Engagement as, “When people work as individuals or in groups to solve
public problems.” (ASU). I am a part of the Disney Parks Fans community and involve myself in this community by understanding and learning about the history of the
company and Walt Disney, sharing park tips with others and visiting the parks regularly. Although not a pressing and important social problem, others who are new to the
parks need help in navigating the process and we in the community share tips on how to travel on a budget, save time and avoid long lines.
