because
they grew up without parents and others who knew them lived with them and when they went
to war young people (minors) did not return when they were men enlisted them to enter the
army and women taught them to be housewives etc.
in the movie jojo rabbit which is about a boy who is called jojo but his real name is johannes.
This boy had the dream of being a Nazi soldier and being in favor of Hitler. Jojo has an
imaginary friend who by coincidence is Adolf Hitler. Jojo enters a Nazi military camp which
left him marked for life because when he was humiliated for not being able to kill a rabbit, he
became annoyed and when his imaginary friend appears, explaining that it is not bad to be a
jojo rabbit, he runs away saying jojo rabbit jojo rabbit and grabs the grenade of the camp
director and throws it but unfortunately the grenade exploded right next to him.
This accident left Jojo out of action for about 2 or 3 transition scenes when Jojo finally
returned to action. He couldn't almost walk and hated his appearance because he called
himself a monster after that accident.
Being crippled after the hand grenade explosion, Jojo is assigned to tasks outside the
battlefield: sticking propaganda posters on the street, picking up scrap metal and other
materials for the front door door to door, acting as a messenger, etc.
One of the most tense moments in the film occurs when several Gestapo agents appear at
Jojo's house to inspect it. This happened regularly in Nazi Germany, where the tip-offs were
constant and sought to end any act of treason against the regime.
the gestapo begins to check the whole house of jojo .. when they ask jojo where his knife is,
the jude girl appears saying that she has the knife and why she has it and they ask who she is
posing as the sister of jojo.
When the gestapo leaves, the jude girl realizes that they helped her so that they did not hang
her and Jojo.
in one part of the movie jojo sees his mother hanged and he starts crying and comes home
and sticks the knife in the young girl but does nothing to her.
After finishing the movie in the penultimate plot, Jojo's friend tells him that Hitler took his
life and that they had lost the war. and at that moment the opponents of germany appear and
they begin to kill and take the german soldiers to the slaughterhouse they grabbed jojo but the
one who helped him for much of the movie made him pass as a Jew to save him ..
when jojo arrives at his house he tells the girl to get ready that they are going out and they are
going to see something dangerous and when jojo opens the door he tells him that they won
the war the girl slaps him and they start dancing..
The reality is quite close to this account, since German children were indoctrinated at school
through an anti-Semitic regime that sought to demonize the Jewish population. In the
textbooks there were some data that border on the absurd, such as that their noses are long
and pointed because they imitate the number 6, the number of the devil.
Attack on Hitler
In one of the conversations between Jojo and the imaginary Hitler, the dictator tells the boy
that the previous year a military man named Stauffenberg tried to assassinate him. This story
is true; It happened on July 20, 1944.
Stauffenberg planned the assassination along with other members of the Nazi party unhappy
with the course Hitler had taken. His goal was to set off a bomb during a major dictator
meeting at Wolfsschanze, one of his headquarters. Unfortunately, four people died, but Hitler
was saved. Of course, not because he has "bomb-proof legs", as the Waititi character
comments, but because he protected the table he was sitting at.
The costume designer for the film, Mayes C. Rubeo, known for her work in the artistic
department of Avatar and Thor: Ragnarok, commented that with this costume they wanted to
show the Second World War “in summer, with a brightness that represented the point of
Jojo's view. ”
In the case of the Nazi soldier played by Sam Rockwell, they did get out of the mold, since
the suit designed by himself that he wears in the last battle does not have any historical
reference. It is rather a trace of his character, with which they wanted to reflect "a uniform
made by someone who knows practically nothing about the rules of design."

Hitler's Costume Elections
In one of the scenes, we see Waititi's Hitler dressed in a suit that seems to emulate Native
American costumes. This has a historical basis, since the true Hitler was a follower of the
literary work of Karl May, a prolific author of stories set in the American West. In them, a
man from the Apache tribe used to appear, which popularized the figure of these people in
Germany. Of course, there is no evidence that the Führer had a similar suit in his wardrobe.
As shown in the film, boys were separated from girls and instructed in physical activities and
the use of weapons. In addition, it is also true the detail of the dagger that they should always
carry with them and that, in the first years, had inscribed the motto "blood and honor" in
addition to the swastika.
Taking into account that the tape ends with the occupation of the allied troops after Hitler's
suicide, we must assume that all the information is true, only that they are honoring the
difficulty of communication between the members of the German resistance. The news
traveled slowly, so it is likely that Johansson's character found out about the Normandy case
long overdue.
hand grenade
A key point in the film is the moment when Jojo braces himself - encouraged by his
imaginary friend - he takes a hand grenade from the character of Sam Rockwell and throws it
to demonstrate his courage. Unfortunately, the weapon rebounds and causes multiple injuries
to his face and one of his legs.
Scrap metal collection
Being crippled after the hand grenade explosion, Jojo is assigned to tasks outside the
battlefield: sticking propaganda posters on the street, picking up scrap metal and other
materials for the front door door to door, acting as a messenger, etc.
These are real tasks carried out by the most childish factions of the Hitler Youth. However,
they were not wearing robotic cardboard costumes.
The latter is said by Yorki, Jojo's friend, when they are about to be occupied by the Allies,
adding that he does not trust much how the Japanese do. He was not misguided, as his army
was losing too.
The Gestapo
One of the most tense moments in the film occurs when several Gestapo agents appear at
Jojo's house to inspect it. This happened regularly in Nazi Germany, where the tip-offs were
constant and sought to end any act of treason against the regime. The situation is also
explained by the character of Stephen Merchant when he appeared before Jojo with his
companions from the Nazi police force.
Public executions
When the Gestapo agents decided that their suspects were guilty, they used to go through
processes of public humiliation before being hanged in a public place as in the film as well.
In addition, Jojo's mother is inspired by various historical figures such as Jane Haining, Irena
Sendler and Tina Strobos, women belonging to anti-Nazism groups. Public executions are
also references to real anti-fascist groups, such as the Ehrenfeld Group or the Black
Orchestra, whose members were killed during the war.
Posters for a free Germany
The National Committee for a Free Germany was a real anti-fascist organization that emerged
in the German country at the end of World War II. They used to use “Free Germany”, like
other groups against the Third Reich, but the posters that Jojo's mother distributes around the
city are the invention of the film.
