1. Problems/ Issues
On this week, we received a new timetable. I received the timetable on 9 th July 2019.
The new timetable had not made a big difference with the previous one. In addition, I
still teach both classes which are 2A1 and 3A3 although the periods were a bit
difference from the previous one.
2. Analysis
The arrangement of timetable is essential for each and every teacher in school. The
arrangement of the new timetable could take a longer time for the management party
of that school to complete it as it effect the whole teacher. The new arrangement of
the timetable was due to the teacher that moved to the other school and the new
comer’s teacher who just get into this school. The PKP need to rearrange all the
teachers’ timetable and it also affect the practicum timetable as we take the teaching
period from our mentor. But, there were no big changes due to the new arrangement
of the timetable. Out total periods of teaching were also unchanged which is the
same with the previous timetable- 10 periods.
According to a research that had been carried out by (Daskalaki, 2009), solving the
problem of school timetabling involves the allocating class, teacher and room
allocated for the timetable slots. Therefore, timetabling problem is not a trivial issue.
There arrangement of the new timetable could take into consideration about the
teacher themselves as well as the pupils. Thus, if the timetable was overlapped the
teaching and learning process could not went smoothly.
To overcome the problem/ issue, there are several ways on how to deal with it:
I. I need to discuss with mentor and PKP.
II. Have the hardcopy of the new timetable and get rid of the previous timetable
so that it would not cause confusion.
This timetabling issue at least took about two weeks to e completely finish.
Meanwhile for me, the practicum teacher, it took more than two weeks to get the
actual and official new timetable as I need to discuss with the mentor and PKP first.
Thus, on the 9th July, I already got the new timetable.
5. Follow Up Actions
The action that I would take to overcome this issue is by seeing the mentor and PKP
for them to enlighten me about the new timetable. Therefore, this problem could be
solved earlier rather than waiting from the PKP without taking any first move.
The first suggested step which is by seeing the mentor and PKP could help me to get
the new timetable faster rather than just waiting from the PKP. Therefore, I did not
have to always postpone my lesson plan if I did not yet get the official timetable. Part
from that, the second suggestion which was getting rid of the previous timetable
could become a big help to me. It is because; having the old timetable at the same
time with the new one could bring confusion for us as there were not really
differences.
8. Conclusion
In conclusion, the timetabling issue should be settled earlier so that, teachers could
prepare the lesson planning earlier. As a result, having an earlier lesson planning
could help teachers and pupils to have an effective teaching and learning process.
