REFLECTION

I am Nur Azreena Azrin Binti Abdul Rahim and I did my micro-teaching last Tuesday, 26th

November 2019. By the end of my micro-teaching there was a reflecting session by me and also

commenting session by my classmate and also the lecturer, Dr Shireena Basree. This is my

reflection of the microteaching presentation on a non-text book-based lesson (Lesson 22). I chose

the text entitled, Pak Pandir, The Village Fool. There are a few strengths and weaknesses that

had been detected through the reflecting and commenting session.

In my opinion, throughout my micro-teaching, I spoke too fast to the extent I was

panting, this may due to nervousness as I was the first presenter of the day. At the beginning of

the lesson, I had a good and big picture of Pak Pandir that can be seen by everyone in the class,

however, I did not manage to have a longer discussion on it as I was afraid of the time constraint.

I should have discussed the picture more and did not rush to ask about the meaning of 'fool'.

When explaining the meaning of ‘fool’ I should have explained it differently as we rarely used

the word ‘fool’. I also forgot to write my learning objectives at the beginning of the lesson but I

was able to write it when the students were completing their group activity.

When I was storytelling the story, my voice projection was loud, however, I read the

story too fast to the extent I missed pronounce few words such as ‘plough’ and I also dropped a

few apostrophes s (‘s) when I was reading the story, I said Pak Pandir wife instead of Pak

Pandir’s wife. I should have read the story slowly with correct intonation and pronunciation.

Throughout my discussion, I provided the students with handouts that will help the students to

understand and retell the story, however, I did not manage to give clear instruction when
distributing the handouts. Only at the end of the lesson, I asked the students to complete the

handouts, I should have asked them to fill in the handouts when I was discussing the story.

My attempt to teach the story was acknowledged but I rushed through the lesson. I should

have discussed and enjoyed the lesson with the students but I was afraid of the time constraint

hence, I rushed through it. In order to overcome this situation, I should have used only one part

of the story instead of two so that I will have enough time to explain and discuss the story in

depth. My usage of grammar throughout the lesson was all over the place, this may be because I

was very nervous when conducting the lesson. As a teacher I should be more aware with my

usage of grammar as I will be the role model for the students in school in terms of using the

language.

Despite the shortcomings, the objectives were achieved as the students were able to retell

the story in the group activity conducted. At the end of the lesson, I concluded the lesson well by

sum up the story and discussed what moral values that can be learned from the story Pak Pandir,

The Village Fool.
