Experience
Graduate Research Assistant, Rutgers University Sep 2014 - Present
• Structured Graph Learning:
– Developed scalable graph learning algorithms to learn structured graphs from high-dimensional
data for time series prediction and inferential analysis
– Validated performance gains on ABIDE fMRI data and spatiotemporal U.S. temperature dataset
– Derived the error bounds for the proposed algorithms using tools from probability theory and
nonconvex optimization
• Detection Theory for Union of Subspaces:
– Posed the inference problems of signal detection and active subspace classification under the
union of subspaces model as binary and multiple hypothesis testing problems
– Demonstrated performance gains over classical subspace model with numerical experiments on
Hopkins motion segmentation, Salinas hyperspectral, and Yale Face datasets
– Derived bounds on detection performance in terms of the geometry between subspaces and the
geometry of colored noise
• Fiber-optics Endomicroscopy:
– Lead a study to develop new data-driven models and explore practical challenges in
implementing various compressive imaging architectures for resolution improvement in
fiber-bundle endoscopy
– Overcame the missing data problem in fiber-bundle imaging by combining snapshot spectral
coding with compressive endoscopy
Graduate Research Intern, Mitsubishi Elec. Research Labs
• Phaseless Inverse Multiple Scattering: May 2019 - Aug 2019
– Worked on a novel fast nonconvex reconstruction algorithm for inverse multiple scattering from
phaseless measurements by exploiting the structural information about the object of interest and
the phaseless measurements.
• Distributed Radar Imaging: Sep 2018 - Jan 2019
– Developed models for correction of position and clock errors in distributed radar imaging
– Posed the imaging setup with unknown errors as a multilinear deconvolution problem to
facilitate derivation of error bounds and identifiability conditions
Other projects
• Training Neural Nets with ADMM:
– Explored an ADMM based method for training neural networks that circumvented the vanishing
gradients problem by decoupling the network variables across layers
– Verified the performance by training LeNet-5 and a simple RNN for time series prediction
• Object recognition:
– Implemented a network in TensorFlow to classify handwritten digits (accuracy ≥ 99.8%) in
MNIST and items in Fashion MNIST datasets
• Sentiment analysis:
– Designed a sentiment detection network to detect sarcasm in the Sarcasm in News Headlines
Dataset and classify reviews in the IMDB dataset using LSTMs
• Time-series prediction:
– Using TensorFlow, designed a deep network with LSTMs to predict time-series for Kaggle’s
Sunspot activity dataset
